Pros

- The friendly team members. - Dogs in the office - Drinks on a Friday - Kelvin is a great director.

Cons

- Management doesn’t have a clue what they’re doing. - CEO is in denial that his company is going down hill, as they’re making plenty of staff redundant, but still trying to hire others. - Seems like they’re happy to use you and then get rid when they can no longer afford to pay you. - Plenty of big positions have recently left, this looks to be like they know something is about to go wrong and doesn’t instill confidence. - No compassion for people being let go for no fault of there own. - Two faced - The CEO will happily tell you that the staff retention rates are normal, but they’re not calculating the redundancies in that number. - Unless you’re an auditor you’re likely to go. I suggest you stay away at all costs unless you wish to be hired and used until they have to make further cuts and get rid of you.

Thank you for your review. We are truly sorry it’s not a better one. We recently had to make some tough strategic decisions that involved structural changes within various teams. This meant that while a number of different roles were improved, a few existing positions were unfortunately no longer required. In this regard, we’re very sorry to hear you feel the situation was not handled with enough compassion as we do truly appreciate the commitment of all our colleagues. To let someone go is never easy, sometimes it is necessary to make such a difficult decision as we continue to grow. We wish you well in your future career and hope that one day you can look back with some fond memories of working with us. We would welcome further feedback, so should you feel comfortable in sharing this with us, please do get in touch at hr@shieldsafety.co.uk .

Pros

- Those willing to talk to you are very pleasant - Get to use modern software

Cons

- I would be very wary of anything promised to you - The CEO likes to micro manage and sees himself as a supreme leader - High employee turnover, any excuse to get rid of you they will do. They promise that they help people but this is a lie. - Leadership and management teams very cleeky - Be careful and avoid, run for the hills!

Thank you for your review, we value all feedback received. I would like to take the opportunity to respond to the points you have made. Strategic business decisions are made by the Board of Directors and no single director has more authority to make these business decisions. During the summer conference in July, all colleagues were given a detailed business update on our future direction and business strategy, how this affected you and your team should have been made clear to you and I’m sorry that you did not feel that this communication was sufficient. Shield Safety have a robust personal development process in place to ensure that colleagues can grow and develop, this includes developing colleagues into management roles and we have had two recent promotions from colleagues using their PDP to progress them into these roles. It is unfortunate that this has not been your experience and if you would be willing to email hr@shieldsafety.co.uk with some more detailed information we would be happy to address the concerns that you have. At Shield Safety our core values are embedded in everything we do, one of which is to Respect your colleagues, your work and our customers. Each colleague is just as important as the next and we work together with all colleagues to ensure that all colleagues are treated with the same level of respect, irrespective of the job role that they hold. I apologise that your experience whilst working with us has not made you feel that you are adequately respected, we would always address any concerns relating to this and ask, if you have not done already, that you raise this with your line manager or by emailing HR in order for us to work together with you on this. Our Leadership and Management Teams are made up from a diverse group of people who bring a range of experience and management styles from all around the business. The teams meet regularly to discuss business strategy, processes and how to make Shield Safety a great place to work. Every colleague has a senior manager from their team representing their concerns in this group, I am sorry that you have not felt that the Management and Leadership teams are accessible to you, we encourage open communication across all levels of the business. If you have not already raised your concerns with your manager, we encourage you to do so in order that we can address them. Like all business, we do have attrition. The average tenure of leavers is over 2.5 years which is testament to our approach of development and support and we continually strive to do better. We value all colleague’s contribution to the company and we proudly recognise long service through our annual awards ceremony. Your wellbeing is very important to us and appreciate your feedback.

Pros

Tea and coffee are provided.

Cons

I started at Shield in October 2018 as an Account Manager. You receive an initial induction which is very generic and not specific to your job role and is mostly a waste of time. As a new starter I was offered little support from my manager who I would observe spending most of the day texting on the phone and in general I found awkward and unapproachable. My only support was the other colleague on my team who unfortunately was not in the office most of the time. I was given a starting target of 5k which went up monthly till it reached 35k I hit 5 out of 6 targets but my probation was still extended with very vague reasoning given which was confusing and demotivating! This situation wasn’t unique to me in general Shield seem to terminate a great deal of talented staff particularly over the past few months. Entire departments have been terminated and outsourced. The sales team seem to have a hire and fire mentality rather than support and grow existing talent which is gaining Shield a bad reputation as a place to avoid if your looking for a job that lasts more than a few months. The people at the top of the sales function seemed to talk a lot and pass criticism frequently but failed to deliver tangible results themselves which lost them credibility within the business. There is also a big drinking culture within Shield which can feel pressuring at times. Overall I do not recommend Shield as a place to work I think if your looking for a stop gap then great but long term opportunity just isn’t there and you will be wasting your time.

Thank you for your review. We’re sorry your experience with us was not a more positive one. We understand extending probationary periods can be unsettling and demotivating. Across all teams and at all levels of seniority the decision to pass a colleague’s probation is assessed on more than their ability to meet KPIs, with values and behaviour of equally critical scoring. We apologise if the reasons behind this decision were not communicated effectively enough to you. Outsourcing is sometimes a necessary strategic decision that can involve structural changes within various teams. While a number of different roles were improved, a few existing positions were unfortunately no longer required. We pride ourselves on our culture, offering flexible working hours and a broad variety of social activities. In this respect we aim to cater to a diverse range of hobbies and interests, in addition to providing a number of health and wellbeing incentives. However, we make it very clear to colleagues that these activities are entirely optional and there is no pressure to take part. To let someone go is never easy, but it is unfortunately sometimes necessary. We wish you well in your future career. We always welcome further feedback, so should you feel comfortable in sharing this with us, please do get in touch at hr@shieldsafety.co.uk .
