Pros

Salary is average for the role, the other team members were lovely

Cons

The workload is insane and when concerns about this are raised it's played off as 'part of the industry' so you feel like its you not keeping up. Working after hours is expected/celebrated. CEO too involved Mistakes are treated with public berating/anger even as a new starter in an admittedly busy industry. I hated everyday I worked there and I wish I had seen these other Glassdoor reviews before I started.

We acknowledge your concerns regarding workload and after-hours commitment. As a high-pressure, performance-focused business in the fast-evolving tech industry, we recognize that our drive for excellence can be demanding. We sincerely value hard work and the dedication our team displays every day. It is with this recognition that we strive to balance the intense pace with a supportive culture and tangible rewards. Our four-day work week, competitive salaries, flexibility to work from home, additional days off for personal milestones like birthdays, a comprehensive wellness program, and two company retreats annually are all part of our commitment to our team’s well-being. For a company of our size, these benefits represent a significant investment in the happiness and satisfaction of our employees. We take your feedback to heart and will reflect on how we can better manage workload expectations and communicate our appreciation for the incredible efforts of our team. We're dedicated to making Today Digital Ltd. not just a place to work, but a place where hard work is balanced with well-being and recognition. If you're open to it, we would welcome the opportunity to discuss your experiences further, as your insights are invaluable in helping us to improve. We appreciate you taking the time to provide us with feedback on your experience at Today Digital Ltd. It's important for us to hear from our team, as it guides us in creating the best possible work environment. The brevity of your review may not fully capture the complexities of working in a high-performance setting like ours. We understand that the nature of our industry and the intensity of our work isn't for everyone, and that sometimes there's a mismatch between an individual’s approach and the dynamic skills required to succeed in our company. When an employee's attitude or performance doesn't align with our standards, despite support and guidance, it is with regret that we sometimes must make tough decisions. We see every end of a working relationship as an opportunity for growth – for both the individual and the company. We hope that the candid feedback provided during our time together can be a source of learning and development. Moving forward, we remain committed to fostering a culture where dedication and hard work are recognized and where every team member is supported to reach their full potential. Not as great as they make out - take the other offer

Pros

Remote working 4-day work week

Cons

Where to begin... Extremely busy - as you can see from the rest of the reviews here the teams are overworked and we were fed corporate dribble when providing feedback about the organization being a "growth-oriented business" and "high-pressure, performance-focused business". These are also echoed as responses here, as such the managers and 'leadership' team are unable to take on feedback due to their defensive attitude. This is evidenced by cutting teams down by up to 50% and then not hiring replacements, expecting remaining team members to pick up the slack. Turnover is incredibly high, people are constantly leaving due to the workload or being sacked off when used as scapegoats by the managers. Concerns are cast aside and overlooked when communicating workload, clashes in projects and threats to client campaigns. Workers are told to make it work and are given no option but to commit to working overtime most days. The founder/CEO of the company is very overbearing, rude, arrogant and very comfortable threatening employees, Don't get me started on the cringey videos that are shared with pointless updates, all because the CEO loves the sound of his own voice. We are told to use AI as if it's the answer to all of our problems, this is promoted heavily by the leadership team and the CEO and is used to create the vast majority of the content. No salary review, if you stick it out don't expect an increase in salary, and with inflation, you'll be making less every year, despite your salary being as low as they can get away with. There are multiple people within the organization who haven't gotten an increase in years - not a single per cent. There have also been multiple times where payment has been late. Lies and mistruths are a core part of the leadership, with a serious lack of integrity, right down to the adverts for new roles, where it's stated there is a flexible working policy that allows you to be judged on your performance. This is a lie, You are expected to provide an update each morning by 9 am at the latest, this would be fine if flexibility wasn't highlighted during the recruitment process. There was also an incident where the team was told their holidays could carry over to the new year, only to be told a few days before that no more holidays could be booked and the remaining leave would not be carried over or compensated. When the CEO was asked about this, he hid behind the team leads, and some staff members lost 5+ days with no compensation or apology, this shouldn't happen at any company let alone one with under 30 people with the means to compensate people. Public humiliation is rampant. The CEO loves to call people out publicly either on group team chats or group calls berating people for the smallest mistake, even when provided evidence that he was in the wrong. Your expertise will not be valued here, if the CEO has an idea, then that is all that matters and your experience and expertise will be cast aside. Then when as expected the outcome is not desirable, you'll be blamed and held responsible. The founder will likely reply to this, with the same corporate dribble as he has with the other reviews, stating he'll take the feedback to heart, but it won't happen.

Thank you for taking the time to share such a detailed review. As the Founder and CEO of Today Digital, I feel it's important to address the concerns you've raised personally and transparently. I genuinely value feedback, even when it's tough to hear, because it offers us the opportunity to improve. That said, I do want to clarify a few points and provide additional context. Firstly, it's true that we are a busy and growing business. Like many small companies, we face the challenges of scaling, and this sometimes means we need to push hard to meet deadlines and client expectations. However, I want to be clear that we do not overwork our employees. We’ve actually reduced the workweek by 20%, moving to a four-day, 30-hour workweek to improve work-life balance. While there are occasions when we need to go the extra mile, this is not the norm, and we strive to ensure that our team is not overburdened. Regarding feedback, we actively seek it and continuously work to improve how we gather and act on it. All employees receive a 121 with their line manager every month where feedback is encouraged. We are committed to making Today Digital a great place to work and invest significant time and resources in enhancing the employee experience. Our efforts to incorporate AI tools, for instance, are aimed at making workflows smoother and more efficient, not at replacing human creativity or input. On the issue of turnover, the actual numbers tell a more balanced story. Out of a team of 30, we’ve had a churn rate of 18% over the past year, which is lower than average for a business of our size in the UK. (The average turnover - or churn - for UK workers is 34% - Google it, it's true.) Most of these departures were due to underperformance, which is never an easy decision but necessary for maintaining the standards our clients expect. I understand that these situations can be difficult, and I’m sorry if anyone felt that they were treated unfairly. As for the personal comments about my leadership style, I understand that I can be direct, but I believe in honest, straightforward communication. Running a business requires tough decisions and clear direction, especially in a fast-paced environment. My goal is always to challenge our team to grow and improve, and while I recognise that this approach may not resonate with everyone, it is a style that has driven sustainable growth. On the topic of salary increases, it's important to note that many of our employees have received raises in the past year. However, since transitioning to a four-day workweek, we’ve focused on aligning pay with performance. We believe in rewarding those who contribute significantly to our success, and we offer regular reviews to ensure that compensation reflects an individual’s contributions. All employees are made aware of their KPIs and quarterly goals are created to ensure we move forward together. Regarding flexibility and holidays, our policy is clear: we operate on a four-day workweek with set hours, and we encourage everyone to take their full leave within the year. This policy is communicated from the outset to ensure transparency and fairness across the board. Finally, I want to emphasise that public humiliation is not part of our culture. I engage with teams regularly, providing leadership and direction, and while I’m passionate and vocal about our work, I aim to be respectful and constructive. If anyone felt otherwise, I sincerely apologize. To conclude, while I acknowledge that no workplace is perfect, we are committed to continuous improvement and making Today Digital a place where people can thrive. I appreciate your feedback and encourage ongoing dialogue with our current team members to ensure we are addressing any concerns promptly and effectively. Thank you again for your review. I’m here to answer any further questions or concerns you might have, and I remain dedicated to making Today Digital a place where we all can succeed together. Rob Scott
