There are so many amazing groups who have been helping communities in our region through the difficult recent months. In April we launched a 1million community support fund to provide a cash boost to groups fighting the impacts of coronavirus and the lockdown. More than 300,000 has now been allocated via 15 local Community Foundations, benefiting more than 80,000 individuals including people living with cancer and disabilities, people dealing with social exclusion, refugees and people with autism. Our engineers are once again pushing the boundaries of engineering innovation as they begin a trial using fibre optic cables to detect leaks in their water pipe network. Working with award winning alliance partner Kier Group and the innovative CRALEY Group, the new trial is the next addition to our pedigree of innovation in next generation leakage engineering. Hayley Bruce, Project Manager for Anglian Water said: “This technology has the potential to revolutionise the way we find and fix leaks across our water network and we’re hoping it will be a fitting addition to our Smart network strategy, it’s exciting times!" Two new weapons in the war against litter in our region have been launched! Last week two kayaks made from recycled plastic litter were handed over to the Colchester Rivercare group. 35 local people were joined by Colchester MP Will Quince for an amazing day of litter picking which saw 20 bags of rubbish, six traffic cones, a bike and a table collected. A huge thank you to everyone who took part! There are events taking place up and down our region as part of the Great British Spring Clean, supported by RiverCare and BeachCare - a joint initiative from Anglian Water and @Keep Britain Tidy. This week our CEO Peter Simpson called for better collaboration and innovation across the water industry at the Global Water Summit in London. He revealed that 114 partners have already delivered 110 projects within the Anglian Water's innovation hub since it’s inception in 2017.
