Each year we celebrate the amazing work our colleagues do at our Best of the Best Awards. Earlier this month, we held our 2019 event in Coventry and it was a fantastic night recognising the achievements of teams and individuals. Well done to all those nominated and congratulations to everyone who won an award, including our team from Wadebridge store in Cornwall on being named Store of the Year 2019!

This weekend we attended Nottinghamshire Pride and were extremely proud to be the headline sponsor for this fantastic event for the first time in our home city where Jesse Boot opened his first store 170 years ago. The day was a celebration of colleagues and customers and allowed us to showcase the 'Best of Boots' through our Health, Beauty and Careers stalls where we had lots of great conversations, gave away product samples and provided Pride inspired makeovers. Earlier this month we held our annual two-day Let's Practice conference for 350 of our pre-registration pharmacy students to set them up for success as newly qualified pharmacists. It's a great event for our pre-reg students to network, celebrate their achievements and prepare for their next steps. During the conference, we also share business updates, career opportunities and news from the pharmacy sector plus there is a special gala dinner in the evening.
On Thursday 4 July, we held our first ever ‘Women In Leadership’ conference. Hosted by Tracey Clements, Chief Operating Officer and Una Kent, Director of Communications, CSR and Archives, over 100 colleagues attended the session to learn more about creating a diverse and inclusive culture, and why it’s so important to our business. The day included a fascinating look back through our history and how Florence Boot became one of the first female directors in the UK back in 1917, as well as being an advocate for staff health and wellbeing initiatives. Other highlights of the day included an insightful panel discussion with some of our female leaders who talked about their career journeys and talks by three external speakers who discussed the latest research on culture, understanding brain gender difference, and the effects of menopause in the workplace.

Today marks the 170th day of our 170th year of Boots and to celebrate this milestone an incredible group of 30 colleagues are taking part in a mammoth 170 mile cycle starting from our flagship store at Sedley Place, London and ending at our Nottingham Support Office, all in one day! The team are fundraising in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support and so far they have raised an amazing total of over £20,000! We're wishing them all the best of luck on their ride today. #Boots170
Yesterday was #WorldEnvironmentDay and colleagues at our Nottingham Support Office have been learning more about our business initiatives and our environmental achievements so far, including removing all plastic cutlery from our catering facilities across our Support Office! We've been finding out more about the ways we can all get involved to make a positive impact on the environment, such as, understanding more about the impact of our diet and signing up to litter picks. In our stores, more than 1,700 fridge doors have been installed, reducing the energy used by over 40%, and more recently, 16 tonnes of plastic has been removed by switching from round fruit pots to square.
Pharmacy at Boots is changing. From May, we are transforming how customers access healthcare by bringing together the convenience of online ordering with the care of over 6,500 pharmacists - creating a market-leading omni-channel pharmacy experience. Working together with NHS Digital and NHS England, we have developed a Free Online NHS Repeat Prescription Service, available through the Boots app and http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vM9E8, and our patients will see changes in some stores too with the introduction of new Express Pick Up lanes and a trial of secure prescription collection lockers. Congratulations to our team in Hull who celebrated the opening of their new store in St Stephen’s Shopping Centre this week. The new look store is one of 24 stores part of our ‘Beauty Reinvention’ transformation programme, which will see Boots become the first premium high street retailer to remove traditional beauty counters and replace them with trending zones, discovery areas, and live demonstration areas.
