Last month, we were joined by Major General John Collyer with our Chief People Officer Jessica Collingwood Terry for a signing ceremony in our Southbank hub as we updated our pledge in support of the Armed Forces Covenant. Since pledging to the Covenant in 2019, we've demonstrated proactive support for our serving and veteran colleagues, earning us a prestigious Silver Award under the Employer Recognition Scheme. As part of this enhanced commitment, we offer our people who serve in uniform five paid days' leave per year, including reservists. Next week we celebrate International Mentoring Day (Wednesday 17th January), a day which fosters a global understanding of the mentoring movement throughout the world. Ahead of International Mentoring Day we talked to mentor and mentee pair - Phil Painting and Laura Elliott to find out more about their journey and experiences… Laura: “I wanted to get into mentoring because it opens development opportunities both professionally and personally. It allows me to widen my support network and gain more insight into Civica at a higher level and this in turn allows me to plan my career path. Being new to Civica, having a mentor helped me to navigate the company’s structure and processes. Guidance from Phil has helped me to develop new relationships with key contacts which has helped me to excel in my role.” Phil: “I get so much satisfaction through seeing people grow and develop on their journey. Being a good mentor is about being adaptable and working to really understand the person you’re mentoring: What are their desires? What are their career aspirations? Once you understand the individual, you learn how you can adapt your style to get the best out of them. The positive outcomes are out of this world.” Civica is looking forward to developing many more mentor/mentee partnerships in 2024.
Last week we announced the beginning of an exciting new chapter in Civica’s journey to become a global GovTech champion, with Blackstone set to acquire Civica from current owners, Partners Group AG. Blackstone, the world's largest alternative asset manager, will acquire Civica during a particularly buoyant period for the company. The company has enjoyed over 21 years of year-on-year growth across its global markets, with more than 6,000 customers now using its software. The move by Blackstone signals a strong endorsement of Civica’s growth strategy and its vision to become a global GovTech champion. The company’s innovative GovTech solutions are now used by more than 2.5 million professionals to serve the needs of 100+ million citizens in countries all around the world, from the UK to Asia-Pacific to North America.
This month we celebrated Diwali 🪔 – the festival of lights 🎆 - at our Vadodara and Indore hubs. Our hubs shone bright with the light of festivities, colourful outfits and lots of fun events planned and hosted by our colleagues. We’re wishing everyone a blissful new year!🧨🎇💥
This year’s #BlackHistoryMonth theme of ‘Celebrating Our Sisters’ recognises the leadership, talent and impact that Black women have played in shaping history, inspiring change, and building communities. Yesterday we completed this year’s celebrations with a panel discussion where we welcomed two amazing speakers - Olaide Oboh and Rachel Akili AMP. MCIPD. During this conversation, they discussed their amazing careers, challenges and really inspired everyone listening! As a Financial Times ‘Leader in Diversity’ Civica is proud to be a part of this month of celebration and reflection. #CivicaPeople #BHM #SalutingOurSisters
As we continue to support #BlackHistoryMonth, we talked to Civica's Danielle Jackson and Myriam Ocholla about female role models and why we should dedicate time to learn about Black culture, history and excellence. Danielle explains: "It’s important we mark this month because Black people are still marginalised in society. BHM provides the opportunity for people to acknowledge their privilege and gain a deeper understanding of how the past impacts the present and future. I value the affinity groups at Civica and the colleagues I have been able to speak to here about my previous experience working in a less diverse environment." As Myriam says: "There is beauty and power in representation. Our formative years are shaped by the people around us and figures we see on social media who we can relate to. Celebrating the achievements of black women is crucial in making progress in the fight for equality for us now and generations that follow."
Last week, we had a very active time in our South West Bristol Hub... 🚲 🏃♂️ To raise funds for Action for Children, we're aiming to move 102,000km in September - whether on foot, bike or even kayak. Why this number? Well this is the amazing number of young people and families helped by the charity in 2022 👏 Thanks also to our health and wellbeing partner Clive Sanders for coming in and giving us a healthcheck - as well as putting us through our paces! If you'd like to help us reach our fundraising target, please visit: https://lnkd.in/ejdZzj-S 🙏
Over the past few weeks, we’ve held several celebrations at our Indian Hub… We celebrated South Asian Heritage Month, which rather than falling within a single month each year, runs for four weeks from 18th July, the date that the Indian Independence Act gained royal assent in 1947. The month celebrates the diversity of our communities, society, and recognises the impact that people of South Asian heritage and culture have had, and continue to have, on Britain today. We also celebrated India's Independence Day and our amazing colleagues showed their creativity by making beautiful decorations for the office, showcasing India's diverse achievements in various fields. Our colleagues dressed for the occasion, in tricolor outfits and enjoyed an afternoon of singing popular Indian songs. Finally, we also hosted a Carrom tournament, a classic Indian board game. Colleagues from our Vadodara and Indore hubs competed and we witnessed a fantastic display of skill and talent in this thrilling and demanding game.
Days of Difference, Every year Civica colleagues can use up to three days of fully paid leave, to contribute to a charitable cause of their choice. This summer, an intrepid group of Civica OnDemand team hikers have really stepped up to the challenge! They've travelled all over England to complete a total of 146 miles - all in aid of Alzheimer's Research UK. From the complete Cotswold Way to the North Downs Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way, this was a brilliant team effort 🏆 The team used their Days of Difference to raise more than £2,750 for a very important cause 👏 Well done everyone!
Out and Proud: Our Civica highlights from Pride Month 2023 So how have we celebrated Pride Month this year? A group of colleagues from our LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group in India have taken part in the Vadodara Pride March, organised by the Lakshya Trust. Additionally, colleagues from our UK offices will also be attending Pride marches in July. We’ve sold rainbow laces at our Civica Hubs, raising money and awareness for Stonewall and our LGBTQIA+ colleagues across the globe. We’ve also talked to members of our LGBTQIA+ Affinity Group to find out what Pride Month means to them… Rebecca Hart, Software Engineer: "When LGBTQIA+ employees feel accepted and supported, they are more likely to bring their authentic selves to work, leading to increased productivity, creativity and innovation. Prajakta Bhogle, Internal Communications Manager: “Being an ally for the LGBTQIA+ community has been one of my life’s greatest joys. I’ve felt immense pride in being part of a movement that stands for acceptance and love. Attending my first Pride Parade as an ally was an unforgettable experience, it was such a beautiful and inspiring event that filled me with hope for the future. Lauren Tubb, Business Development Manager: “I know what it’s like to feel different, so I love seeing my work colleagues showing their support. However small the gesture might seem; it means the world to a lot of people. It’s standing up and saying, “I’m with you and it’s ok to be you.”
