Yesterday, we were delighted to attend the HBF Parliamentary Skills Reception 2026, an event celebrating the varied roles and pathways that lead to rewarding careers across the home building sector. Bringing together apprentices, trainees, graduates and industry leaders, the reception shines a light on the incredible opportunities our sector creates and the vital role it plays in supporting local economies and communities. In attendance on behalf of Gleeson were Debi Lindsay, Early Talent Coordinator, Chloe Bingham, Senior Communications Manager, Max Thompson, Technical Graduate, Chloe Hargreaves, Trainee Assistant Site Manager and Lewis Gardiner, Apprentice Joiner. With the industry needing tens of thousands of additional skilled workers each year to meet future housing ambitions, it’s more important than ever that we inspire and encourage the next generation into our sector. Women into Home Building Programme 2026 🏠 This week, applications have officially opened for the eighth intake of the Women into Home Building Programme, delivered by Pathway CTM in collaboration with the Home Builders Federation (HBF). ✨ National Apprenticeship Week ✨ This week, we’re celebrating National Apprenticeship Week by shining a light on the people who are building their careers with Gleeson. We’ve spoken to several apprentices from across the business, from office-based roles to site-based, and we’ll be sharing their stories throughout the week. Today, we’re highlighting Niall Prince, who started his journey with Gleeson as an Apprentice Bricklayer four years ago and has since progressed into a Trainee Assistant Site Manager role. Our sustainability target is for 10% of our workforce to be in earn and learn roles, including apprentices, trainees and graduates. These roles offer young people and those looking to enhance their skills, the chance to gain paid employment, recognised qualifications and hands-on experience. We currently support 36 full-time apprentices, alongside five trainees completing apprenticeship qualifications and two permanent employees undertaking degree apprenticeships. This reflects our belief that learning doesn’t stop once you enter the workplace. At just 19 and 20, Brooke and Bradley have achieved an incredible milestone, stepping onto the property ladder and purchasing their first home together. Through the First Homes Scheme, the couple are now settled into their two-bedroom home at Bracken Park, creating a space they can truly call their own. We’re proud that initiatives like the First Homes Scheme are available at a number of our developments, to help young people and first-time buyers alike to take those important first steps into homeownership, making a real difference in their lives. Last week, our South and West Yorkshire office organised several Halloween-themed activities, all in support of our charity partner, Zarach, the Children’s Bed Charity. From transforming the office with spooky decorations to hosting a fancy dress competition, raffle, and even a “guess the number of eyeballs” challenge, the team went all out for a fantastic cause.
