Last Friday, Dr Sam Rushworth MP returned to our Bracks Farm development to do some bricklaying alongside several students from Bishop Auckland College. Mr Rushworth first visited the development in February 2025, where the team discussed at length the importance of making homeownership more accessible, particularly for first-time buyers. The discussion also focused on the shortage of skilled tradespeople, which was a key point of interest, particularly as Sam was previously a landscape gardener. Following this, Sam expressed a real interest in collaborating with the local college to enable students to see first-hand where their studies can take them and the opportunities available in the construction industry. The site visit provided an important opportunity for us to showcase our commitment to building affordable homes in Bishop Auckland while also demonstrating the diverse career opportunities available within the construction industry. The students explained that although they had been on site visits before, this was the first time they had had the opportunity to lay bricks, and they found the visit both rewarding and beneficial.
