Meet Jozef. He works within our Store Construction team whilst simultaneously studying a BEng (Hons) Civil and Environmental Engineering apprenticeship. As part of #NAW2021, we wanted to showcase our talented apprentices and give them a platform to share their experiences. Here’s what Jozef had to say: "Some of the biggest learnings from my apprenticeship so far have been organisational skills and project management skills. They’ve played a huge part in my personal development. Working while studying for my apprenticeship has also given me a great opportunity to develop and apply my knowledge and experience beyond just my daily tasks. If I had to describe the my apprenticeship experience, I’d use the words: Challenging, Rewarding and Adventurous." #WeAreLidl

This has been a particularly challenging period for our colleagues, who have worked tirelessly to feed the nation throughout the pandemic. That’s why all frontline employees across our 800 stores and 13 Regional Distribution Centres will receive a £200 “thank you” payment. We’ll also be paying all of our office-based teams a one-off £100 payment in recognition for everything they’ve done to keep our operations running smoothly in these difficult times. A massive thank you to each and every one of our 25,000 colleagues across the UK. Together, we make it happen.

Although we’d all like to have ‘Blue Monday’ behind us as quickly as possible, it’s a good time to reflect on how we’re managing our mental health. We recognise that our colleagues have been placed under more pressure than ever before over the past year, and have a number of resources in place to support them. Alongside our e-book and video lounges, filled with resources to help learn more about mental health and how to manage it, our colleagues have access to a free and confidential employee assistance programme which provides an information and counselling service. Over the last year we also introduced Woebot - an AI chatbot that helps colleagues track their mood, change thinking, set goals, practice mindfulness, and gain insights into specific patterns. Mental health matters, and every member of team Lidl GB should feel supported. Together, We Are Lidl.
One of our fundraising highlights of 2020 was a 10k challenge in our Bridgend region. The 10km could be completed at any time of the day, with colleagues cycling, walking or running the distance - ensuring all the relevant social-distancing measures and lockdown rules were being adhered to. A number of colleagues took part, including 11 area managers, the majority of Bridgend’s Admin team, a number of department Heads and the Regional Director - and together they raised over £1,500 for the NSPCC! It may feel like a distant memory to the team, but we’d like to thank them for their tremendous effort and fantastic achievement.
