Oxford Brookes University Student paramedics complete a two-week placement at MHA The Homestead care home as part of their progression and development. The students were working with residents and supporting staff members in dealing with the needs of the residents. Student Alex said: “The experience was very beneficial for me and one I thoroughly enjoyed. The team of staff members were very supportive and the prolonged experience at the home was very good." Verity Perkins, Deputy Home Manager said: “We have always had a good relationship with the university and as part of the course the students are on, working in an environment where people are living with dementia is a must for them. “The students were really good, attentive and were always willing to help, which are very important attributes. It's a great experience for the students and one that, if they are genuinely interested in, works well for them.” Just one example of MHA helping people grow and develop.

We're #Proud to see our residents, members and colleagues getting involved with #PrideMonth 🌈 We've seen our care homes getting involved with rainbow crafts, parties and talking about what they're proud of. Residents and colleagues are really excited to be going to national Pride events across the country too with our 'Pride in MHA' staff network. Amazing! Just one small part of our EDI Strategy launched in 2020.

Famileo success! We celebrated our 1 year anniversary of implementing the Famileo app in our care homes and some retirement living schemes that keeps residents in touch with loved ones. The Famileo app was pioneered by Activities Coordinator Amy at MHA Coed Craig - she loved the idea and pushed this forward within MHA, and it went from strength to strength. 5,112 families and friends are using it to stay connected and around 23,000 individual gazettes have been published. MHA is the largest care provider in the UK using Famileo. MHA’s dementia lead David Moore, who has been instrumental in rolling out Famileo to care homes, said: “Because of the pandemic, visiting in our care homes has been limited at times. Famileo has been a fantastic way of helping keep the connections between residents and their family and friends when they haven’t been able to see each other. " Colleagues across MHA have come together to celebrate the milestone and 11 awards were given at a small ceremony hosted at Epworth House Head Office. Be part of something special, join #TeamMHA

She said: “I love having a chat with the residents, I know the job requires a lot of compassion and you do need to be a caring person. My current role works perfectly around my personal life. For me, I do the job in the hope that one day someone will look after me the same way I looked after residents and I do find the job very rewarding." MHA Alexandra House care home have been celebrating two members who have recently been promoted into managerial roles. New home manager Kerry Graves joined the home in 2016 as a deputy manager. She said: “I am extremely happy to have started a new role in MHA and I am looking forward to what it brings. I have always had a passion for working in care. Once I joined MHA, I always wanted to be a home manager and worked very closely with the former home manager who was very supportive and helped me to develop my skills. New deputy manager Elysia Mccoy joined the home as a care assistant in 2017 before moving up to a senior care assistant. Elysia said: “Both Kerry and Hayley have been very supportive of me and pushed me to develop and work my way up.
