It's great to see innovative technology used for residents living with dementia in our care homes. Thanks to a recent investment we were able to fund 125 HUGS across 25 of our care homes but we're hoping to receive funding so even more people can access a HUG. Before the HUG dolls come to the home, our colleagues receive training so they know how to use them and recognise which residents will benefit from HUGS. We're also seeing benefits for some of our residents who aren't living with dementia too, showing the true power of a hug. MHA Willowcroft care home has been featured with their HUGS on ITV and BBC news. Watch the lovely video below to see the power of a HUG from MHA. Congratulations to Sam, MHA Housing Manager who has achieved her CIH Level 4 Certificate in Housing and is now embarking on her level 5. All this during her 11th year with MHA, managing a pandemic, and her four retirement living schemes whilst also supporting other schemes with vacant manager posts. Wow! Jo, Retirement Living Area Manager said, "She really is a real-life MHA superhero. Well done Sam, I am extremely proud of you." You could be celebrating success like Sam too! We have opportunities across the UK to join #TeamMHA where your role is #MoreThanJustAJob

We had a great turnout at our Walter Hall seminar this week where our panel discussed ageing and the issues that face older people in the care sector and beyond. We caught up with MHA colleagues and members of the public to ask them about social care and what it will mean for them, and us all, as we grow older. If you're passionate about social care, you could be a part of #TeamMHA - visit mha.org.uk/careers

Chef Coach Peter celebrates 15 years at MHA. He joined MHA Brockworth care home in 2006 as a kitchen assistant and quickly moved up the ladder from Cook to Hospitality Manager, and became the first MHA-appointed Regional Chef Coach in 2010, training MHA Chefs across the UK. Peter has also completed his ILM Level 5 qualification in operational management. “I have had full support in my development and I am very grateful for the opportunities that have come my way." It's not Peter's first MHA award, “last year I was fortunate to win an MHA Oscar award in the Learning and Achievement category, which was a very proud moment for me." “I am really enjoying working at MHA. The company values, support and encouragement in personal and professional development has helped me grow into a well-respected and recognised senior manager. "

We're so pleased to announce a pay increase of 5% for all staff, meaning all employees will be paid above £10 an hour. For a number of years, we have been paying staff the Real Living Wage and this pay increase from 1 April 2022 means the charity will be paying above their rates which are £9.90 an hour, and within London £11.05. Our CEO Sam Monaghan said: “The importance of caring for and supporting older people has never been greater. The value of all the work carried out by all our employees in their many varied and different roles within MHA, is so respected. We believe that all colleagues who worked so tirelessly throughout the pandemic and continue to deliver critical services to people in need deserve greater recognition and reward and MHA will continue to campaign for this. This pay award remains true to our principles as a charity."

We're so pleased to announce our award from the British Gymnastics Foundation Award for Best Collaborative Partner 🎉 We became involved in the 'Love to Move' programme in 2020, starting off in Leeds. Now a whopping 92 members of staff have taken the 'Love to Move' training in order to deliver safe, chair-based exercise classes to our residents and members. The British Gymnastics Association said: "They [MHA] have acted as fantastic advocates of the programme in the care sector and worked with us tirelessly to help and encourage their staff through mentoring to get to their final assessments. Many of their staff are now delivering Love to Move in their workplaces and benefitting hundreds of participants." Great work with a great partnership here at MHA, enabling people to #LiveLaterLifeWell
