Nationwide has launched Fairer Futures – a three-year programme to tackle some of the biggest issues affecting society and support people who have been dealt an unfair hand.
As The One and Only branch in Windsor, we asked Chesney Hawkes to announce the winner of our Windsor Community Fund. The £10,000 raised will be spent on the installation of a local ‘pocket park’, which aims to bring an area of green space into the town centre - as voted for by local residents.
As part of our commitment to build an inclusive environment, we have launched the Care Concierge Service, a new tool to support our colleagues who have caring responsibilities - provided by Legal & General.
Today we are announcing our strongest ever financial results. This financial strength has enabled us to give back a record amount of value to our members and society more broadly. Today we are also launching our biggest statement yet in how we use our financial strength to benefit members - through The Nationwide Fairer Share.
We're proud to share that we've been named as a Disability Confident organisation.
Welcome to Stephen Noakes, our new Director of Retail. Prior to joining the Society, Stephen spent 15 years at Lloyds Banking Group in customer services, transformation, retail products and mortgage leadership roles. He brings with him a wealth of experience and expertise to elevate member experience across Nationwide. Stephen commented: “I’m thrilled to have joined Nationwide Building Society this week, and have received a very warm welcome from my new colleagues. I’m very excited about the opportunity ahead and I very much look forward to getting out, meeting teams and collectively doing more for our customers."
At Nationwide, we're committed to building a Society which reflects the diversity of the wider communities we serve. We're proud to be named in the FTSE Women Leaders Review as the only financial services provider whose Board is made up of more than 50% women. In addition to being named in the review, we are also a signatory for the Women in Finance Charter, and are committed to supporting the progression of women into senior roles. Whilst we still have further improvements to make for our colleagues, we're pleased to be leading the way for the sector.
We’re guided by a social purpose and aim to make our communities better places to live. We donate at least 1% of pre-tax profits to charitable causes.
As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, we want to offer our members support at a time when they need us most. That’s why, from August, we’ll be launching a freephone cost-of-living hotline for members experiencing money worries, which will be answered by dedicated, trained experts based across our main branches. “We know the challenges that many of our members face from the cost-of-living crisis. We’re here to help and will make it as easy as possible for people to get the right support when they’re worried about their finances. That’s why we provide expert help from our branches, and now through the new hotline. We can do all of this because we are a mutual and our singular focus is our members and we use all profit for their benefit.”- Debbie Crosbie, Chief Executive.
We've teamed up with Hey Girls, an award-winning social enterprise, to install vending machines which'll provide free, biodegradable period products to thousands of colleagues. After trialling the concept at one of our main admin centres in Scotland, we'd received overwhelmingly positive feedback, resulting in us rolling them out across all of our administration offices across the UK. The community interest company operates on a “buy one, donate one” model, with community partners benefitting from free products including food banks, women’s refuges and homeless shelters.
