Look at our Premier Inn Hamburg St. Pauli! It's an outstanding site with great architecture and interior design. But more than that… it’s also flag bearer for how truly sustainable hotels can be built. When we work with our suppliers to build hotels, we always want to ensure we’re fit for the future, leading the way in design and sustainability. So we were delighted that the building for St Pauli meets such high sustainable property standards that it received a DGNB Gold Standard certificate. DGNB is the German Sustainable Building Council that evaluates the overall performance of a building and promotes the implementation of holistic quality in planning, construction and operation. Not only this, but all new Premier Inn hotels in Germany strive for BREEAM in use certifications just like our UK sites aim for BREEAM standards in all new builds. Michael Hartung, Managing Director Premier Inn Germany: “With Premier Inn Hamburg St.Pauli we wanted to make sure it’s not only a great place for people to stay and work, but a sustainable building for people to stay and work in too!"
We started designing and testing Premier Plus bedrooms in 2018/19. In a few months' time we will reach the milestone of 1,000 Premier Plus rooms across our hotel estate. The concept of the Premier Plus room is simple - it is to give Premier Inn guests the option of even more comfort, convenience and connectivity. The room is designed to appeal to those travelling for business or special occasions - or perhaps looking for a little extra luxury during their stay - offering a super-comfy kingsize Hypnos bed with a choice of pillows, an improved workspace, mini-fridge and ultimate wi-fi. The rooms are also in their own dedicated spaces in our hotels. The concept was first trialed at our Islington Premier Inn in 2019 to test and refine the offer and now Premier Inn hotels in London and across the country have Premier Plus rooms alongside our standard bedrooms. Selected new openings this year, such as London Tooting and Oxford City Centre (Westgate), will also have Premier Plus rooms available to guests.
Here’s some of the team from Scarborough’s newest Premier Inn hotel in the North Bay. The site opened recently, creating 21 new jobs and a further nine jobs are expected to come later this year as the ‘staycation’ season takes off. The 105-bedroom hotel is our second Premier Inn in the town and one of five new hotels we are opening in seaside and coastal locations this spring and summer. Half of all Premier Inn guests stay with us on leisure breaks every year and our seaside hotels are particularly popular. Scarborough is a seaside location we are investing in, as we see the demand for our much-loved brand in the resort, with our other Premier Inn at Scarborough South also undergoing a 90-bedroom extension. Together, the hotels will grow, create jobs and strengthen the local economy as our guests head out to enjoy the beach when they stay with us.
