In September we're holding a Festival of Fundraising with the aim of raising £50,000 for our partner charities - Alzheimer's Society (registered charity number 596645) and Alzheimer Scotland (registered charity number SCO22315). From 11 – 19 September we have a Society-wide fundraising event called Miles for Memories. Two SBS Directors - Paul Fenn and Ian Moore will be visiting each of our 87 branches over the course of the week. They’ll travel the 2,296 miles on motorbikes, whilst gaining sponsorship and spurring on branch fundraising, with colleagues aiming to match their miles in any way they can - running, walking, rowing, cycling or swimming! This week our leaders have been exploring Unconscious Bias. But what’s it all about? Your background, personal experiences, societal stereotypes and cultural context can have an impact on your decisions and actions without you realising. Implicit or unconscious bias happens by our brains making incredibly quick judgments and assessments of people and situations without us realising. Through forum theatre and open conversations we created a learning experience to highlight the issues and themes around Unconscious Bias and what we can do to ensure we continue to strive for a positive and inclusive culture. We’re continuing to build on this throughout 2018.
