Meet Tobias Cornish, who joined Which? in 2019 as an endorsement scheme administrator. Recently, Tobias moved from our commercial team to our advocacy team and is currently working as an external affairs officer. We caught up with Tobias to find out more about his time at Which? and his new role. He said: 'I have enjoyed working with two great teams, endorsements and now external affairs. Developing key skills as an administrator and account manager gave me the opportunity to move into the external affairs team, where I am now currently working on telecommunications and energy.' As part of our collaborative diversity mentoring programme, each of our leadership team members has been paired with a Which? employee. Our latest update is from Helen Moore, group people director, and Fatima Bello, money policy adviser. Helen said 'I was delighted to be matched with Fatima, someone who has been in varying roles and functions at Which?. Both a little unsure in our first session of what to expect, we spent it talking about our birthplaces, our childhoods, our family and how we’d ended up at Which?. Quite quickly we found similarities.' Fatima said 'We have had so many great conversations. I felt like Helen really listened to me. She always took care to update me on the actions off the back of our discussions. She also consulted me on some tough areas and asked my opinion during key comms moments. I felt so valued. ‘I have learnt so much from Helen - the way she makes things happen and how she is keen to drive forward positive change. It has been eye-opening to get a sense of how tricky it can be to have such a crucial role in an organisation like Which?. '
Our Head of engineering, Richard Hart, has held a wide range of roles in his 20 year career and the only thing that’s been constant is change. He talks about the changes he’s seen and the impact on him and his field, from the technologies we use to the perception of engineers. He's also re-evaluated how he measures his own productivity and success "As an individual contributor, the feeling of accomplishment is felt with every line of elegant code, every successful commit, every successful build, and every successful deployment to production." #engineering #leadership #career
Almost two years after the Government promised to legislate to protect access to cash, our latest report shows that cashback schemes alone (the ability to withdraw cash from shop tills without purchase) are NOT enough to solve the current cash crisis. A Which? survey of more than 2,000 people found: ❌ Only 16% were aware of this option. ❌ Only 25% thought it was convenient. ❌ Only 24% felt safe withdrawing cash this way. The government must swiftly introduce its long-promised legislation to ensure consumers who depend on cash can continue to access it in a way that best suits their needs.
Say hello to Linda Williams who joined us as a talent acquisition specialist last September. Building on many years' experience in recruitment and HR, Linda now focuses on finding the very best talent for Which?. After working within the South Wales community for more than 30 years, and having a strong contact centre background, she's passionate about recruiting professionals into our Cardiff Contact Centre. She said: ‘I've always had a love for Which?. My dad always used Which? and I have fond memories of sitting and reviewing the magazines with him whenever we made a family purchase. Moving on from that, I love the way Which? has changed over the years and looks now to protect and fight for the consumer in so many other areas.’
We're committed to being an inclusive organisation, and to support this, we’ve recently launched our Disability Confident Interview Scheme. Charlotte Taylor-Scott, people partner, tells us more: ‘I'm pleased to say just last week we launched the Disability Confident Interview Scheme to encourage disabled people to apply for jobs by offering them the assurance that, should they meet the minimum criteria, they will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities at the interview stage. In addition we’ve recently created manager workshops to help support our managers to support their people, including understanding disability perception and barriers, looking at language, how we might make adjustments in the workplace and much more.’ #InternationalDayOfPersonsWithDisabilities #DiversityAndInclusion #JobsAtWhich
Congratulations to our latest Values Sharer, consumer rights content writer Hannah Downes, who received nominations from colleagues for living the value of ‘We care'. Hannah represents everything that Which? is about and is the perfect example of how we can make a difference in people's lives and force powerful companies to do the right thing. She takes great pride in her work, genuinely caring about helping those who experience consumer rights and customer service issues, to ensure they receive the rightful outcome they deserve. Well done Hannah!
We were delighted to win not one but two awards at last week's Welsh Contact Centre Awards. Our Member Services Centre in Cardiff won silver in Medium/Large Contact Centre of the Year and Matthew David, floorwalker, won Covid Hero of the Year. Fran Hudd, head of Member Services, said: 'To be recognised as one of the best contact centres in Wales is a huge achievement and a huge testament to the fantastic people we have across Member Services'. Matthew said: 'I'm proud of the effort and time put into my job, the dedication shown during such a difficult time in people's lives to continually support not just our members but my colleagues too, who I would easily class as a family! A massive thank you to those that nominated me in the first place and to those that have helped me along the way too.' #CustomerService ##WelshContactCentreAwards
As part of our collaborative diversity mentoring programme, each of our leadership team members has been paired with a Which? employee. Our latest update is from Charmian Averty, general counsel, and Aaron Al-Jeryan, members services operations manager. Charmian said ‘Hearing and learning from Aaron is what this programme is all about for me. I definitely understand more about some of the technology/systems challenges our colleagues face now. I’ve shared this insight with my teams and it’s changed how we approach something like data privacy training. I also want to make sure we increase the diversity in my team and in the legal profession more generally. Aaron’s perspective on how my team can build our brand and think about who we appeal to has been very thought-provoking and something I’m picking up with the People team.’
Following the launch of our policy report “Supporting consumers in the transition to net zero” https://lnkd.in/gydf6Twz our director of policy and advocacy, Rocio Concha Galguera, has been invited to speak at three #COP26 events - ensuring that Which? continues to be a powerful voice for consumers when it comes to sustainability. Today she will be joining the CBI (Confederation of British Industry) of at the New York Times Climate Forum at 1.15pm to discuss how consumers and the choices we make are going to be crucial to achieving net zero - whether that’s the products we choose, food we eat or how we heat our homes. You can join the event virtually by signing up here: https://lnkd.in/ePPzAJkD We know from our research that most people are trying to make changes to lower their carbon footprint, but they don’t always understand what they can most effectively do to reduce their own impact. And even when they do, the environment in which they make their choices makes it so much easier, and often cheaper, to make less sustainable choices.
