Our CEO Anabel Hoult speaks to PoliticsHome about Which? launching a landmark claim which could see individual consumers due up to £30, depending on the number and type of smartphones purchased since October 2015, although it is expected at this stage that most consumers would receive around £17. https://lnkd.in/eciz3Sp
Say hi to junior Salesforce system administrator Vahid Asli. Vahid joined Which? in 2010 working part-time as a sales and service adviser in the Member Services Centre while studying at university. We caught up with him to learn how his career has developed since joining us. ‘After I finished university, I stayed on at Which? and was then offered a one-year secondment in the Service Support team. Having always had a strong interest in technology, I was offered another secondment towards the end of my first, this time in the IT team as a support technician, which eventually turned into a permanent role. I stayed with the IT team for several years, working my way up to become a senior technician before moving into my current role.’
We're proud to share that recently Rory Boland, editor Which? Travel, won the prestigious British Society of Magazine Editors Travel Editor of the Year Award 2020. Never one to blow his own trumpet, Rory said 'I still pinch myself about being a travel writer. I grew up on a council estate and went to a comprehensive school, and at times it didn't seem like a realistic aim. To win this award is a source of huge pride, and proof that background shouldn't and doesn't have to matter in becoming a journalist.'
Lockdown 3.0 has proven to be difficult for many of us and so we’ve all found different ways to help us get through this time around. We spoke with executive assistant Deb Goodwin, who’s focusing on remaining active during the current lockdown: ‘When I joined Which?, I found a great little barre fitness studio, which I used to run off to twice a week for a short lunchtime workout. The instructors quickly began teaching from home during lockdown, so I can still enjoy the routine. I am someone who needs others’ energy to make me work that little bit harder and lift my spirits, so if you’re like me and find it more difficult on your own, I'd recommend signing up to one of the many classes out there. Make a little space for a break. After a long week, my treat on a Friday night is a G&T or cocktail – and my cocktail of choice is a Gibson (lots of gin, dash of vermouth, three cocktail onions).’
With us all still in lockdown it is as important as ever for teams to stay connected, and what better way to do it than on one of the yummiest days of the year – Pancake Day! Our colleagues in the People team celebrated the day together by competing to make the best pancake and bringing together siblings, children, partners and pets. Maybe we're biased, but it looks like they had a flipping good time!
We are delighted to have recently recruited our very first intake of 4 new apprentices. Welcome to Emmanuel Netsere, Rhianna Mclean, David Greenfield and Henry Rush. Emmanuel has recently joined the Which? People Team. Emmanuel says: “While working in the HR People team at Which? i will be studying to gain my Level 3 HR support certification and CIPD license. This will last 18 months and involve two endpoint assessment exams.” We will be recruiting more apprentices later in the year in addition to supporting the #10000BlackInterns programme.
Congratulations to sales and service team manager Jamie Coker, who is our latest Values Sharer winner. Jamie has been nominated and recognised for putting our value ‘we care’ into action and for his dedication to his team. One of his colleagues said: ‘He helps you out with anything you need, always has a solution for any problem, and is always looking for ways to make our work better. He listens to you when you're feeling down and is always so understanding. It is an honour and a pleasure to work with him and know that he's leading my team, and he's brought out the best in me when it comes to my work. You can't put a price on people who recognise what you're capable of and are willing to cultivate that, and I will be forever grateful for how much he has pushed me this year and who I've become as a result.’
