How is the work/life balance at AstraZeneca?

Pros

Good strategy, lots of great and competent people, many brilliant scientists, high level of dedication and commitment amongst staff, best performing Biopharmaceutical company in the world

Cons

Too much politics and power gaming, highly demanding work environment with very little respect for work life balance, not open to flexible working arrangements, diversity and inclusion is widely promoted in the company yet not followed by those leading the efforts

Advice to Management

Embrace the widespread society trend of providing flexible working arrangements. Take a broader perspective on diversity and inclusion, there is much more to it than gender balance, embrace different personality styles, approaches and ways of working. Avoid the inherited danger of only hiring people who can conform and adapt to a specific desired company style and behaviour - be open to true diversity.

What is overtime like at AstraZeneca?

Pros

Good salary, dental, and bonus. I cannot complain.

Cons

You usually work more than 50 hours a week. It will be strange if you work less than those hours. The manager has no empathy for employees. They just make sure you work overtime and also add loads of pressure on you to get it done even when you don't have any capacity.

Advice to Management

Training is needed and also changes are required in the management team.

Does AstraZeneca reimburse for mileage?

Pros

Pay and benefits can be good, but you may be paid much less that your peers depending on a number of factors outside of your control. Favouritism is rife.

Cons

Very little evidence of leaders living the regularly pushed AZ values. Toxic culture where you are not safe to have a view that’s different from your leader.

Advice to Management

Take an honest look at your people surveys. Stop trying to spin the results into good news and focus on fixing the real issues that are driving your people to play it safe and keep quiet.

How are flexible working hours at AstraZeneca?

Pros

Encouraged to learn a lot of different skills, friendly coworkers, supportive work environment. My manager has been phenomenal but that's just one of many, I don't hear many complaints from coworkers under different managers though. Good parental leave policy (I think 2 months as of 2021) and flexible working hours with some work from home possible if necessary.

Cons

Was understaffed for a bit but they brought in contractors to help with the workload
