Cons
Internal complexity within and between BU’s

Pros
Fantastic facilities (not to mention brand new global HQ, the DISC) Dynamic science turning into life-saving treatments Diversity (nationality, ethnicity, etc.)
Cons
Culture of fear - people afraid to speak out against bullying and unprofessional conduct Personality cults - middle management seem to worship senior leaders rather than treating them as real people. Names of senior leaders regularly invoked like spells to coerce people. Poor work-life balance - people often are implicitly told to work evenings and weekends because their managers and/or their peers do. Diversity but no inclusion - a diverse work force does not mean that everyone's opinions are valued and respected.

Pros
Good opportunities to expand skills and work with ground breaking science (as long as you are also willing to drive innovation). Many great people from diverse backgrounds enrich working environment. Effort is made to create environment where workers can speak up and share concerns, although solutions do not come easily, if at all.
Cons
Not much room for promotion past Senior Scientist, while responsibilities can constantly increase. Too much responsibility is piled on Scientists/Senior Scientists to cover lack of staff in supporting positions and long arduous bureaucratic processes in place. Significant time is spent on admin, waste management, equipment maintenance, booking equipment and ordering reagents, lab cleaning/organisation, etc. While there is an open environment to raise issues, the responsibility to fix them almost always falls on the person who raised them. Currently, labs and offices are extremely crowded, with queues for some scientific equipment longer than a month. Tissue culture hood space is precious, and many have to rely on cancellations or non 9-5 working hours to carry out their experiments. It seems likely this will not be fixed with the move to the DISC as the space was designed when the company was much smaller. While scientific attitude is generally a positive for AZ, it can lead to significant pressure to advance projects and run experiments. This often leads to a disregard for health and safety as not much time is left to dedicate to it.

Pros
Job security Good pay & benefits package On the whole, good and friendly people Many women in leadership role, which is rare. If you stay long enough, there seems to be lots of opportunities to move around the company.
Cons
Huge bureaucracy & silos that come with a large corporate, with imbalance between contractors who can get paid to do very little and overloaded permanent staff. Inflexible and impersonal internal systems and support processes. Very limited circle of influence. And 'presenteism' culture: compulsory 3 days in the office + 'always on' culture where you're expected to work all hours on the premise of being a global organisation, but with little focus on actual value delivered.

Cons

Pros
-People are very friendly, general environment is almost family like between people. -There are lots of employer benefits and team activities. -There are showers for people who cycle to work. -There is a restaurant and gym on site, with discounts for AZ employees. -There are lots of resources available for self-improvement*.
Cons
-* although self improvement resources are there, no body has time for self improvement. -The requirements for a new employee to get a position are lower than those for promoting a current employee to that same position. -Lack of communication and understanding between the work teams do. -The general culture is to give everything you have - most people have far too much on their plate and no time. A lot of people work overtime often and aren't at all acknowledged for it. And yet, everyone is pushed to continuously take on more work. I have never seen so many adults cry at work from stress. -Lab safety is a joke. People don't report injuries and near misses that don't require medical attention under the excuse that they do not have time to deal with the paperwork and inquiries that follow.

Pros
Great site with great colleagues who care about each other. Senior management range for experienced to new but great to see a diverse team working together. Great package with benefits and feel really looked after. My opinion and skills are really valued here and you feel part of something bigger that helps society. Would recommend to work at this great, friendly site!
Cons
Some of the processes are old and slow so they need to be open to improvement and change.

Each employee has the possibility to speak up and to steer ther own career path. The company has deep collaborations with academia and invest massively in internal scientific research. AZ have great values and each individual has the feeling to work in a safe and protected environment. Great work/life balance and psychological healthy environment.
Cons
A moderate degree of internal competition might slow down some projects.
