I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Booking.com (Amsterdam) in Nov 2021
Interview
HR Screening - very positive experience
Screening with a Senior Engineering Manager - positive experience. Talks about my experience
Code review home assignment - Very easy, some unclear things.
Follow-up on code review - pointed out missing feedback on the code review - also easy
Stakeholder meeting - very easy
Business Interview - neutral-bad experience, very focused on what i'm lacking rather.
System Design - easy/moderate difficulty, didn't drive the conversation as expected. Although i believe i answered all questions and i thought it was supposed to be a dialog not a one man thing.
I got feedback with:
- Positive on code review - but didn't point out some key flaws, which I did: "sql injection of an api"
- Positive on stakeholder - nothing to add
- Negative on system design - didn't drive the talk, but instead waited for questions. It was unclear what it was expected of me, asking questions from my side is part of the dialog. Systems are not designed in 40 minutes :) Negative experience overall
- Fit and Leadership - asked a few questions, answered to the best of my beginner management experience and was told that i don't fit the role.
Applied then ghosted for 1 month. Then the recruiter contacted me and asked to book an interview (system design).
Then I got ghosted again for two weeks after the interview. I assumed I failed but after two weeks recruiter congratulated me saying I passed with flying colors and they would like to continue with me. =)
For the next 1 hour interview, I have given them 24 time slots starting from a week from then.
This was one week ago, I am currently ghosted again =)
There are five more interviews, with this speed it would roughly take 7-8 months to complete the process.
