      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Meta in Jun 2017

      Interview

The process from first email with recruiter about specific role to rejection notice was four months...The recruiter was responsive when I asked a question, but on average it would take between 1 to 2 weeks and I had to be the one to ask for feedback after each stage of the interview. It was fairly clear that this recruiter was dealing with a lot of candidates for the role and probably for other roles, too. I also didnt get lunch at the campus, which I know may seem like a silly complaint, but I thought they could have included lunch. My interview timeline is below: Week 1: Referred by friend and recruiter follows up within a week. Week 2, 3, 4: Suggesting jobs I'm interested in, Recruiter saying I'm probably not the right fit Week 5: Finally seems like my interests may match a role Week 6: Recruiter phone screen for specific role Week 7: Interview with hiring manager via video platform called bluejeans Week 8,9: Waiting for feedback/recruiter finally responds that I'll be moving on Week 10: Second video interview via Blue Jeans Week 11/12: Feedback that they want me to come onsite Week 13/14: Waiting for and participating in onsite interviews with five people Week 15: Told I need to do another interview via phone that week Week 16: Assigned writing task Week 17: turn in writing assignment and wait Week 18: After a week of waiting I email recruiter and get a response that same day saying I wont be moving to next round. My first thought was, how could there possibly be a next round? Overall everyone I met with was nice and intelligent. The campus had an energetic vibe and people seemed happy to be there. I think the job would have been really interesting too, but my interview experience was just too long. I cant imagine that it take seven people over the course of four months to determine if you are a right fit. I feel like that's just overkill.

Contract role. 2 interviews, one with the hiring manager, one with someone working in an adjacent role. Almost offered me the job, but decided I was overqualified, which was disappointing.

The first step was a call with the recruiter, from there, I spoke to six different people in one-on-one interviews; including my hiring manager and peers in policy and communications, from both Instagram and Facebook. The last step was to write an op-ed,
