    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at TOPdesk (Manchester, England) in June 2018.

    Interview

I was interviewed by the Branch Manager and his colleague from London via a video call. The interview was awkward for me because I have only had relatively easy interviews in the past. One of the first issues with my preparation was that I went to the meeting in a suit, while the Branch Manager was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. In hindsight, I should have been more assertive with my dress code. The interviewees were both friendly and fair. They wanted to know a lot about me and asked detailed questions regarding my A-Level grades, University grades and what I'd learnt in university. A positive learning experience.

    Easy Interview

    Application

I applied in-person. The process took 4+ weeks. I interviewed at TOPdesk (Budapest (Hungary)).

    Interview

First I had a homework. After that without question they arranged a timeslot for me in the middle of the day. I told them the timeslot is not suitable for me and asked to have it from 8.00 any days. They said that it cannot be done beacuse they work from 9.00... after some weeks they invited me for 8.00 and after the
whole 2 hours interview told me that they wanted a fullstack developer... I was very very disappointed !

    Software Tester Interview

    Average Interview

    Application

I applied online. The process took a week. I interviewed at TOPdesk (Budapest (Hungary)) in August 2019.

    Interview

I applied for the position, I got contacted the very next day via e-mail and got some "homework" with questions that you would usually get asked at an interview e.g. Why do you want to be a tester? What is the purpose of testing? etc.
I sent them my answers and received an invitation the next day.
The interview was held by an HR-representative and a SCRUM Master. I was given a short presentation of the company and its products after which I had to present myself. They asked me hundreds of questions starting with When and where were you born? etc. (which were actually highly irrelevant) and I don't think I have ever had such a thorough interview. There was also a not too complicated test at the end. The whole interview took about 1,5 hours.
About 3 hours later I received a rejection mail with surprisingly concrete and detailed rejection reasons I was interested in automated testing and the interviewers could not guarantee that I would find the right challenges for myself. And they thought that I'm not good with people/cannot communicate effectively.
So the position wasn't quite what I was looking for and I wasn't the right type of person for the job.

I have to give a big thumbs up for speed and efficiency, but the company (culture) is not really the best choice for introverts/ people who are rather quiet as they are not welcome.

There were habits/traditions that I would consider rather unprofessional and a bit shocking. (I won't go into details)

So all in all I have mixed feelings about the company, but I don't think I will apply for another position any time soon.
