It's just okay

Pros

Not given many tasks, very easy job.

Cons

Few responsibilities. Very little opportunity for growth. You don't learn any skills. The BCG uses outdate softwares that will not give you job experience to move to other, better jobs. Upper level management does not care about employees. No innovative approaches. The main attitude in the department is "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." However, clearly, the problems in this department are rampant and everyone thinks it's too difficult or too much work to fix it. No one seems to have the drive to make things better or easier for the public. There is a lot of gatekeeping of information from the public, and surprisingly, from employees. No one wants any change at all, because god forbid you might have to do another task in your busy day of answering a hand full emails and phone calls. Upper management does nothing but meetings. Everything is based on some outdated notion of "chain of command." Coming from nonprofit work, the BCG is really just lazy and unwilling to improve.

Pros

Steady employment Great benefits if you were employed before 2007. Work is 35 hours per week.

Cons

Hazardous building, you have to be someone's favorite to get a decent area or equipment. Management is dismissive and does not reward good work.Job direction is minimal but you are berated for doing items not explained or trained on. No chance of promotion unless you are one of their favorites. Within same group some can telework multiple days but others are not allowed to with reason being because I say so. Middle and upper management do not respond in a timely manner. Persons promoted with no idea of jobs they supervise. Must pay to park for work or training and have to walk a fair bit to get to office. Toxic work environment so much that bureau has an 80% turnover rate in 5 years.

Pros

Helping those who are in need of immediate housing. Part Time with Full Time Benefits - skills learned with HAP contracts will prepare me for my future career in law.

Cons

Working here has been challenging due to several downsides. I faced retaliation from supervisors when correcting their work, and the workload and deadlines did not align with my compensation nor my work hours. Additionally, I wasn't given the opportunity to decline certain benefits, leading to further deductions from my paycheck. This experience, being one of my first initial significant jobs post-college, has left me drained and disheartened. I look forward to potential changes in management that would involve leaders who appreciate and support employees, ESPECIALLY those with degrees, rather than belittling their employees who have valuable qualifications and experience.
