Doesn't RecommendNeutral OutlookApproves of CEOI have been working at Depop full-time for more than a year
Pros
- Some very great people and a lot of opportunities to learn IF you are a self starter - The company is very committed to sustainability and building a diverse workforce
Cons
- Lack of focus on years of technical debt means its very hard to fix old issues and the code has stagnated. - Becoming very corporate, in a bad way. Adding many layers of middle management hasn't helped the large silos between teams and only furthers the lack of clear ownership. - There can be a lot of crunch when deadlines and promises are missed or things break - Severely understaffed devops team means you have to do a lot of that yourself

Doesn't RecommendNegative OutlookI worked at Depop full-time
Pros
Credit where it's due to the People team, they go above and beyond to make sure that you're settled in when you join. They are always on hand if you need anything after as well. Susie and co really don't get the credit which they deserve.
Cons
Where to start? The top level management do not appear to empower the product side of the business in expressing itself. There's a total lack of trust which results in a rubber stamping and feature factory culture. They also hire more and more managers around them who have come from competing companies, and they want to continue the fight at Depop. A lot of the managers want to get one over on each other, which creates a hell of a lot of politics. It's a one step forward and 2 steps back type of working day on most days. Because of this discord any requests to address tech debt get ignored and everyone in the engineering teams is pressured to get things completed as quickly as possible. It results in code reviews only happening when everyone becomes blocked, and people criticising you rather than helping you when you don't see what they see. All of the above results you in vary rarely learning anything new, and it becomes mentally taxing. It's a place where your role is probably divided like this: 85% bureaucracy (meetings, emails, pulled in different directions by different managers and a lot of round and round conversations) 5% Coding - Writing new features and learning 10% Collapsing - Trying to recover mentally in the gaps of time that you have. It's morale sapping and I wish you the very best of luck if you join Depop, for you will need it.

Pros
The company really care about making the office and inclusive environment and living up to their 4 or 5 values. There is opportunity for promotion.

Disorganised at times. People being employed for managerial roles without the necessary experience. Last minute projects and not very engaging content.
