Pros

Staff are generally all friendly and supportive to work with, able to book extra shifts very easily to work in other areas to get experience and extra money. Being able to work in a rewarding job where the patients and relatives are so grateful

Cons

Very poor parking situation, huge waiting list to get an onsite parking space for staff which means shift workers are expected to finish shifts late at night and walk alone to their cars off site in Blackpool in the pitch black. Bench shifts are paid at the standard rate which is astounding considering they expect you to work normal full time hours and technically work over time for the same standard rate. Unsustainable pressures which affect the whole NHS meaning that acute wards are often left dangerously short staffed. Recent weather mixed with no air con also meant that working areas were far too hot to work , leaving staff feeling unwell, yet being told that ‘nothing can be done’. Poor training opportunities and even if you are able to get onto a course you’re not able to attend due to clinical areas being chronically short staffed!

Pros

Great sense of purpose and meaning in the work. Colleagues are genuinely dedicated and supportive. Good variety of tasks day to day, and you gain a wide range of clinical and interpersonal skills quickly. Job security is a major plus.

Cons

Staffing levels are often stretched thin, which puts pressure on everyone. Pay hasn't kept pace with the demands of the role. Management can feel disconnected from frontline realities, and communication from the top down is inconsistent.
