Don't be fooled by the positive reviews - this place is run by the circus
Pros
Staff I worked with day in and out were great and put up with a lot of idiocy Decent pay and benefits It ends there.
Cons
This review applies to both Health Standards Organization and Accreditation Canada (same company). Where do I start? Management: With the exception of a few, those in power have absolutely no business being there. They have zero accountability to the Board of Directors and get away with creating repackaged 'business plans' that make great paper weights and kindling at best. They are the sole reason this company will never grow to what it could be. Spending: For a non-profit, spending and general expenses is disgusting. Let me paint you a picture. Certain high level executives at this company get up in the morning from Monday to Friday and get to YYZ, hop on a plane and land in YOW. They take their private chauffeur service to HSO headquarters. At the end of the day, they go back home the same way they came. Yes, you read that right. certain executives commute from Toronto. Further, Management travels the world going to conferences, staying at nice hotels, and more, all on the non-profit dime. I have seen this company spend money on the absolute stupidest crap, but the travel expenses for the selected few are disgusting. It is no wonder they have a 'holier than thou' attitude, because they are literally flying the skies from above 24/7. The Business Plan: Don't be fooled, there isn't one! It is merely a 100 page facade and 100 slide PPT to bury you in fake news. Looking closely at it, the details make no sense and there is no clear directive to execute against it. It is a plan for the sake of a plan so that the Board of Directors can slap their stamp of approval on something so the 'vision' of the company can be perpetuated. Toxicity: Management THRIVES on creating toxicity and chaos at the lower levels. Some of the things I've heard being said (or yelled) are snide, evil, and downright malicious. Whoever continues to work at HSO or AC unfortunately has Stockholm Syndrome at this point. The poor people have been abused so much and I feel for them. Don't be fooled by any of the positive reviews from either the HSO or the AC glassdoor. HR is trying very hard to get rid of the negative reputation that has happened since the Executive changeover in 2016. Sadly, the damage is already done. I urge anyone who considers this place for an employment opportunity to STAY AWAY. It is too far gone and will not change in the near future.
