I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Job security, diversity of roles, pay and working environment is generally good, good mix of personnel and experience on most projects, good opportunities for graduates

    Cons

Old fashion in their approach, benefits are average, and I have found that programme management do not take advice from their beginners, generally do not learn from past mistakes, have an attitude of we have always done things this way so it must be right

    Advice to Management

Programme Management do not often listen to their engineers

    Pros

Very ethical, diverse company. Lots of depth in some areas (i.e. key programmes / products). Well understood structure, plenty of room for movement.

    Cons

Very deep hierarchy, can be at risk of being pigeon-holed and therefore remove ability to move between roles. Very process heavy.

    Advice to Management

Listen to employees, understand some subtle feedback and know when to accept advice from those who are your junior. Encourage alternative ways of doing things rather than 'it's this way or the highway'.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Generally pleasant work environment with good team dynamics. Benefits were great - vacation, extended holidays, 9/80 work schedule, 401k with matching, and health options.

    Cons

It’s a big company so expect red tape to come with everything. Bonuses were poor.

    Advice to Management

Transparency is key. Make sure the lower level is in the loop on the bigger picture so they can more clearly understand their role and importance.

I worked at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Rewarding work to provide the BEST for our military men and women, involvement with State-of-the-Art technologies in the aviation, space, above and under the sea Battle space. You can't beat that experience. Great retirement plans if you want to work toward that goal. Upward mobility comes but initially you have to acclimate, learn the LM culture, and project a upbeat, engaging professional spirit and willingness to team with others for mission success.

    Cons

Physical working environment is nothing to crow about. Sometimes, getting identified for the rewarding jobs takes a bit longer.

    Advice to Management

Explain your expectations clearly to your direct reports. Recognize those who are willing to properly balance their professional lives with their personal lives. Be the example. Listen to both your technical specialists and the support positions. Everyone has a part to play.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

There are a few well managed projects that run like a well-oiled machine, but again, only a few.

    Cons

    1. Many team members lack the needed skillset (in the IT domain).
    2. Very little collaboration between management and other teams.

    Advice to Management

    1. Learn how to Communicate effectively.
    2. Hire the right personnel (i.e., rightly matched skillsets).

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay, great work life balance, stability, security

    Cons

Niche skill set. Aerospace is not a rapidly growing industry like so many other industries in tech.

    Advice to Management

    Retain and hire younger talent

    Pros

Big company but a small work group lots of meetings with food

    Cons

    Advice to Management

there is more to work than just occupying a desk. boredom is bad

    Pros

Great benefits: vacation, 401k matching, medical and good pay. Engaging, challenging work, lots of different kinds of jobs and opportunities for growth.

    Cons

Work environment is very dependent on the business unit and culture of a particular program. Some programs are fast paced and modern while others are slow paced, very bureaucratic, highly political and outdated. Depending on the program you could be working on the latest tech or you could be working on very outdated tech from legacy projects.

I have been working at Lockheed Martin full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Variety of work available
    Job stability through market volatility

    Cons

Potential for career stagnation without a lot of individual effort
Inefficiency in processes due to the nature of the large corporation and business model

    Advice to Management

Pay your people what they are worth on the open market or even, gasp, slightly better, if you truly believe you hire the best people.
