Pros

Employee discount, first dibs on reductions, the occasional thank you.

Cons

Lackadaisical, myopic management inconsistent with company standards, hampered by a lack of foresight and an inability to appreciate the chasm of difference between their own experience and those of the colleagues who work the departments. Management are taken by surprise at every turn, often flailing to achieve what a great many retailers seem to achieve with a modicum of grace and ease. Next to no consultation when it comes to schedules, frequent flouting of company policy of a week's notice for rota changes, little in the way of appreciation and an increasingly impatient and badgering tone as though we are to blame for the circumstances of the store.

Pros

I worked at Morrisons from the time Sir Ken Morrison owned the business until it was taken over by Dalton Philips. The change in the business was tangible, sir Ken ran it for customer service and family values like market street. When he retired the CEO'S just squeezed and squeezed the staff to breaking point. I had my counters manager coming in working unpaid on her days off because she was so stressed. The lady on the counter next to me sat crying one morning because the other person in her department hadn't come in, she was so over worked. It was absolutely disgusting what they did and all the good staff ended up leaving for greener pastures, leaving the most incompetent behind to train the new staff. When I pointed out some of these failings to my manager I was disciplined. I now work somewhere else, thankfully, and to this day refuse to spend a single penny at a morrisons store or petrol station, the hatred runs that deep. When they sent some imbecile to train us on food hygiene, he took away the nail brushes from our hand washing sinks saying they were unhygienic. When I asked how he expected us to thoroughly clean under our nails he assured us our hair would clean that when we shampoo it in the shower. I hope the entire business collapses

Cons

Over worked and under paid Rude customers Bad work culture Unhygienic disgusting practices

Pros

Morrisons pay well, ten percent discount, great benefits, large labour turnover creates opportunities if you can stick the course

Cons

Culture is toxic. The business talks about engagement, does does not deliver. From top down, this is a tell and do business, in a bullying way. The atmosphere is oppressive. As a Store Manager, you are effectively on call 24/7. You are micromanaged in the extreme, a far cry from the 'autonomy' advertised. The business is ruthless. As a warning to on-boarding Store Managers, your trial period is effectively 2 years, not the 6 months spoken of, and you can have your contract terminated with no warning or comeback up to that point. I have worked for some great businesses and brands, this is the only one I truly regret joining.
