Hostile Work Environment (Specifically Covered CA side of business)

Pros

THIS IS SPECIFIC TO THE PORTION OF PINNACLE THAT WORKS ON THE COVERED CA FOR SMALL BUSINESS CONTRACT (CCSB)! I hear working for the Core Business side of Pinnacle is lovely. The only positive thing about working for this company is that they, by some miracle, seem to hire really wonderful people. Unfortunately, that is eventually negated by the company's uncanny ability to grind those people down to nubs under to constant pressure, blame, and negativity. Oh, and they have a nice Irvine Company office & good medical benefits.

Cons

I realize that people come to Glassdoor to air their grievances, but I will try to be as fair as possible. (Again, this is specific to the CCSB side of Pinnacle's business). Pinnacle (CCSB) is chaotic and the idea of being proactive instead of reactive is completely lost on management. It's impossible to prioritize your work when everything you touch is a priority. While some of this is due to the State of CA being a particularly needy customer, this is also a clear reflection on a disorganized management team who would rather point fingers of blame than find the root cause of their issues. The morale of the departments is extremely low, especially for the Finance & Eligibility Specialists. The reason is the abuse from the management team. I have personally witnessed, on more than one occasion, employees being yelled at and dressed down in front of all of their peers. The "Quiet Rooms" on the 2nd floor are commonly used for crying. Overtime is also often mandatory and you are not allowed to leave until the work is done. That doesn't just mean YOUR work, that means everyone's work. The pay disparity between Specialists doing the exact same job can be up to $3-$5 per hour (regardless of experience or seniority) and annual raises are always under 3%. I could go on, but this is honestly just depressing me.

Pros

My immediate supervisor and co-workers are great people and fun to be around. The new office is in a great location. Outdoor tables and lounge area make breaks and lunches relaxing. Benefits package is very good and affordable.

Cons

The problem with the company is the management. Many departments are run chaotically with no one clearly driving the ship. The good supervisors, leads and regular joes are taken for granted, and are asked to work above and beyond for little or no recognition. Raises are non existent. There is no path for advancement. There is no accountability above the supervisor level and all of the responsibility for success gets shouldered by lower level employees.

We appreciate your review. We too are thankful for the great people, pleasant office environment, solid benefits and amenities. However, as with any growing organization, we have growing pains that can cause challenges as we become a larger company. The upside to continued business growth is that it has created development opportunities for curious, hardworking, and accountable individuals who can move quickly and adjust easily to change. We may not have a standard career path for every job, but many employees have advanced throughout the company and have been rewarded with additional pay for their new responsibilities. We also continue to look for ways to give recognition for everyone’s hard work. Lastly, Arbinger training is important to Pinnacle as it helps us to nurture a positive company culture, but it is a development process and with any change it takes time. This year we are updating our performance process to align with Arbinger’s 3A+ system of accountability to further inculcate this philosophy and measure progress toward those results. Pros

There are some wonderful, kind people here who try their best despite the lousy management. The office looks really nice with all its new furniture. Some managers are great and really try to protect their staff from what goes on. You get a Tiffany gift for anniversaries - of you can keep your head down long enough.

Cons

The company likes to say it is high tech but system is so old and messed up that things go wrong for clients often. The executives react by blaming the people instead of fixing the system. The executives literally scream at one another although most of them have worked together a long time and seem to think this is how the world works in the 21st century. There is a disgusting old boys club as well. Communication from the executives is crummy unless you are inside the club.

Thank you for your feedback. We are glad you enjoyed working with our great staff and in our office environment while you were with us. We take great pride in the diversity of our company. In total, women dominate our workforce population 60/40. At the professional and executive levels of our organization, there are 39 men and 38 women. We welcome employees of all diversities and contribute their skills to helping us serve our clients in the best way possible. Regarding our computer systems, the reality is that our systems are updated regularly, sometimes daily, by our talented staff of computer programmers and coders. Moreover, it is because we are a client-driven company that we make needed adjustments to our system this frequently. We are a passionate group of people and as with other companies, some company conversations can become heated, but yelling and disrespect is not tolerated at this organization and is always subject to disciplinary action.
