      Undervalued & poor working culture

      Pros

Good experience to add to your CV. Great engineers to work alongside and teams on the 'shop floor' go above and beyond.

      Cons

No career progression. Poor pay rates for MSP and breadth of technology. Stop penny pinching and trying to cut every corner to deliver technology as cheap as possible - then be surprised when solutions don't work and are unreliable. No payrise unless you hand in your resignation & threaten to leave. Company/management do not appreciate and value the staff/engineers working on the shop floor doing the job. Staffing crisis! Over half of managed services engineers have left in the last 12 months - very few staff stay here more than 3 years. With such high staff churn, one would expect management changes or change of approach from the company/HR - but does not seem like this will ever happen! Expectations of engineers to give up all hours to work at unsociable times for the company - for little remuneration/no thanks in return. Senior management clique has an 'old boys club' culture instilled throughout the company. Invest properly in employees, systems and technology.

      A real shame...

      Pros

Some absolutely fantastic colleagues across the entire business... When things are going well the atmosphere is great..

      Cons

Very much a 'blame' culture, I have witnessed managers berate grown men and women in front of full offices as if they are in a nursery playground and unfortunately this is common place, not an enjoyable place to be unless you are one of the 'favourites' who rarely receives this treatment. Don't even think of asking if you can leave an hour early (despite being 30 mins early every day!) This is not allowed! You WILL work from 9 - 5 period. No pay reviews for certain areas of the business but massive ones yearly in others despite the review being part of your employment contract the discussions just don't happen - unless of course your resign and are well thought of enough for them to throw another 5k at you to stay! By this point though it becomes too little too late.

      Stuck in the past

      Pros

Paid on time, people you work with are generally nice

      Cons

Management are just there to take orders from the married couple in charge who give out commands and don't listen to anyone else, they are always right. SCC has a horrible atmosphere, I truly don't know anyone who works there that even likes it, they just grin and bare it, nothing ever changes (especially the wages) Training is pathetic, mostly in-house rubbish. Management are very bullying, they don't really care what you do just as long as you get the all important figures to brag to prospective customers, they don't value quality of work at all. Always bragging about how great SCC is and how much money they make, but never pass on any thanks to the staff, and when you have an appraisal there's never any money on the table just excuses, some people at SCC haven't had a proper pay rise for years, some never, and certainly no annual cost of living rise. The Birmingham office has recently had a refurb but the office/warehouse behind it is in a terrible state, it seems they don't care about that, I only ever saw the couple in charge a couple of times over several years. Boring jobs working on old obsolete equipment just doing the same thing day after day with no training, no incentives, people just do what they have to do and stop it's laughable. I wouldn't advise anyone to work at SCC, seriously if you can get a job stacking shelves in a supermarket or flipping burgers take that over SCC, it will be more rewarding.

Best company I have worked for

8 Apr 2021 - Field Engineer in Birmingham, England, England

      Business Outlook

      Pros

There is excellent communication with staff. I had a great line manager who shared everything from the companys head office and made me feel part of the team even though I was mostly at customers buildings. Good exposure and a good learning curve for my next role.

      Cons

There are individuals who do not take responsibility for their own actions which is necessary working in the field. I found that if you got your head down and did what was required (what you're paid to do!) there was rarely any issues that couldn't be resolved.

      Pros

      1. Salary paid on time (OT not!) 2. Colleagues were awesome but, slowly they've all been driven out.

      Cons

      1. Micro managed. 2. They do not trust you, your opinion or your capabilities in any way, shape or form. 3. Forced/threatened to work before AND after your shift for up to 1 hour with ZERO pay. 4. HR completely and utterly corrupt to the core, avoiding complaints and grievances by finding loop holes out for the company and to cover managers. 5. It is run like a mafia, zero compassion, employees all low morale. To sum this up. The company IS NOT run like any normal company. They will drain you, physically and mentally. They will play games, mind games, belittle you, trick you, make you do contract breaking tasks, bully you, threaten you'll lose your job unless you comply with their demands such as forcing to work OT with no pay for 1 hour, Micro manage you by managers who aren't qualified to manage (they are all promoted for their aggressive and bully like nature to those roles). DO not be fooled by the companies apparent size, or their deceiving nature at first glance, eventually you WILL see the cold hearted evil in them and you would be absolutely shocked at all the stories from previous colleagues (whom I still talk to and are good friends) that had to endure unethical and, when I say the operate like the mafia, one ex colleague was pushed to the edge with suicide 100% all from this very company and the way they treated him. They've been reported and they're being watched. Take care if you plan to start working here and always keep your options open.

      Toxic

      Pros

Getting paid on time, experience for the young people early in their career

      Cons

Incompetent managers that make bad decisions and don't know what they are doing, which has a negative effect going downwards, and drive people out. As others on here have mentioned, its a toxic, blame culture, with mainly uneducated people that cling to their roles (don't blame them, would be difficult to get a job somewhere else), the other motivated/certified people that want and can get something better, leave the business, hence the high turnover in staff, and the toxic ones stay, which creates the environment/workplace into a bad one. Gossip, negative labelling, have heard management how bad speak about other employees. Engineers eventually do all the hard work and are treated like donkeys and they are not trusted. Yes and management would love to see you fail, the incompetent ones that are petty and can't get a job as a postman.

      Pros

On the surface a great offering with fully established teams that should be able to deliver almost any project

      Cons

Getting any kinda of resource is like pulling teeth, it feels like decision makers in the business are desperate to find reasons not to do new business, they only seem to care about existing account and customers.

      Pros

Some great individuals, variety of work is available if you reach in for more, lots of opportunity to improve process and tooling

      Cons

No focus on staff wellbeing, negative response to covid-19, no clear strategy across the business, limited communication from C-Level to wider business, unhappy workforce, no staff feedback survey so the opportunity to improve the workplace is limited. Low holiday allowance and only offer statutory parental leave.
