For #WorldMenopauseDay in October, we spoke to Project Specialist Samantha, about her experience of early menopause and how it affects her. Sam became menopausal at just 33 after being diagnosed with a number of conditions that affected her fertility. Her doctors decided it would be best for her to have a full hysterectomy which triggered the start of the menopause and caused symptoms like hot flushes, brain fog, mood swings and insomnia every day. She says “Coming into work when struggling with menopause symptoms can be a constant battle”. Sam encourages women to talk about this with friends, family and colleagues - that’s why here at Aldi we have a Menopause Support Guide, a Menopause Webinar and a Menopause Support Hub, all of which make sure our colleagues and leaders have everything they need to support one another! Thank you for sharing your story Sam ❤️

Now it’s not often we call out colleagues of the month on our socials… as here at Aldi we know how hard each and every one of our colleagues work every day. But this month, we wanted to shine a light on a very special person who has been helping out in our Birkdale Store; Karmen! Karmen is only six years old and often visits the Store with her mum where she enjoys helping Aldi’s Store Assistants on the shop floor. Whether it be collecting baskets or tidying empty boxes, Karmen has become a familiar face amongst store colleagues and customers alike. To thank her for all her efforts, colleagues at the store presented Karmen with a ‘Colleague of the Month’ badge during her latest trip to the store. Plamena, Karmen’s mother said “The team at the Birkdale Store are always so friendly and we can’t thank them enough for this kind gesture - it has well and truly made her year”. Thank you to Karmen for being such a superstar and a big thanks to the wonderful Aldi team at our Birkdale Store for going the extra mile to make her feel so appreciated.
We’d like to send our very best wishes to the King as the country celebrates his Coronation today. 🎊
This week we spoke with the wonderful Hilary, who is a Store Assistant in our Swindon region. Hilary was diagnosed with bilateral hearing loss fourteen years ago, so we really wanted to understand from her exactly how #TeamAldi can be good allies to those with hearing loss. Hilary described how her colleagues and management have been really supportive, taking the time to repeat themselves when talking with her and understanding how the busy environment of a shop floor can be more challenging. Making simple changes to the way you interact can make a big difference to people with hearing loss, Hilary explained. Staying face-to-face, maintaining eye contact and using gestures can all really improve your communication. Here at Aldi, we are proud supporters of the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Scheme. Our colleagues have undergone training about hidden disabilities and the sunflower symbol, so they can offer additional assistance to customers and colleagues who may require it.
We don’t just love our colleagues – we love their pets too! So this #NationalPetMonth we wanted to introduce you to Buying Assistant Phoebe’s pawsome pal Pumpkin! Pumpkin and Phoebe won our internal competition where team members had the chance to send in their cutest animal photos to win a modelling spot for our pet food range. We’re sure you’ll agree he looks purr-fect on the front of our Vitacat packaging. 😺 🐾 If you fancy flexible working, great op-paw-tunities and a super salary to bring home the best pet treats, head to our website to see all available careers > https://www.aldirecruitment.co.uk/
