BAT’s POSITIVE skills training programme for our sales and trade reps has been officially recognised as a formal qualification in South Africa! The accreditation by the South Africa Qualification Authority and quality assurance from AgriSETA is testament to the relevance and quality of the programme, which has trained over 900 reps and 120 managers in the country. With the aim of developing the best field force in the world, POSITIVE has had a significant impact on our Trade Marketing & Distribution operations and continues to be a driving force in delivering competitive advantage for BAT.
“In my 14 years in BAT Bangladesh, my biggest realisation is that you become a sum of a person of what YOU give to YOURSELF, and how YOU leverage every opportunity in the organisation. “The world is yours if you make best use of your skills abilities, passion and resilience in response to various challenges around you. Many things seem impossible, but for me, ‘the world is yours’ if you believe that it’s possible. It’s this belief that gives the inspiration to take up new challenges everyday and makes you a winner.”
“The principles of strength from diversity and freedom through responsibility have transformed the organisation into a learning institution where talent is given the space and tools to grow and develop. “My ultimate key takeaway from the programme would be the opportunity to interact and manage numerous stakeholders across different departments. Plus, BATCCA’s diverse set up spanning both Central America and the Caribbean, makes it a very interesting melting pot of ideas, ways of life and ways of working, which when consolidated, delivers amazing results.”
BAT employees have been helping rebuild the lives left devastated by 2013’s Typhoon Haiyan. As part of a donation package from our employees worldwide, Rufina received an industrial oven, enabling her to rebuild her livelihood by baking more bread which she sells on the streets of Hernani town, Eastern Samar province. Since November last year, BAT has turned over to beneficiaries 75 motorised fishing boats, 50 sets of fishing nets, 30 sets of house repair materials, three tricycles, 10 pedicabs, sets of different livelihood implements, a rice centre, and two multi-purpose community centres.
“What I have enjoyed most while pursuing my career at BAT is the realisation that my journey is not defined by limitations but by opportunities; whereas I studied Natural Sciences, I have worked in Leaf Growing, Manufacturing, Logistics and Product Development. Five years down the line, I am now in Marketing in charge of managing the marketing cycle of activities in Uganda. Being open minded is one of the core values at BAT and I can attest to this, as it turns out, it is one of the pillars that has built my career across different facets of the business."
Congratulations to our team in Bangladesh for winning the Asia Responsible Entrepreneurship Award (AREA) 2015! Their project, “PROBAHO”, which delivers safe drinking water to rural communities, earned them this outstanding accolade as one of the best CSR projects in Asia.
“I have had opportunities to manage results across borders with teams in countries as diverse as Uzbekistan, Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Mauritius, and Congo. I have learned different and better approaches to a wide range of issues from the ideas brought on by working with diverse and dynamic teams. I have been supported in balancing my responsibilities as a working mother of 3 lovely children whilst realizing my career aspirations. What I value most is the principle of open-mindedness encouraged within the company coupled with the drive for leadership at all levels.”
BAT Caucasus recently held a job fair with a difference – by taking over the iconic Heydar Aliyev Center in Azerbaijan. Usually home to high-level political forums, the Center rarely opens its doors to non-governmental institutions. Indeed, no business in Azerbaijan had ever managed to hold a similar event in the building before. The BAT-sponsored Azerbaijan Job Fair attracted around 4,000 students from 40 universities and representatives from 50 multinational and local large-scale business institutions. During the fair, 700 students passed real live interviews for specific job vacancies.

BAT Romania goes for gold! In the fourth year that our team in Romania has participated in the Corporate Games Bucharest competition, they have once again won the Medalist Award, with 132 medals and the highest number of gold medals! We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their hard work in training for this event, staying fit for business and having fun whilst doing so. And it goes without saying that your persistence and determination paid off – congratulations for achieving such incredible results!
