Yesterday, some of our apprentices attended a Scottish Apprenticeship Week launch event held at Fife College. The event, which was hosted by Skills Development Scotland the The Scottish Government and Fife College, brought together current and former foundation, modern and graduate apprentices. Our apprentices had an opportunity to share their experiences and discuss the importance of apprenticeships with Graeme Dey MSP, Minister for Higher and Further Education, Shirley-Anne Somerville, MSP for Dunfermline and Cabinet Secretary for Social Justice and Diane Greenlees, SDS Director of National Training Programmes. π Our Balfour Beatty VINCI team has officially launched the final tunnel boring machine (TBM) for HS2, the high-speed railway in the West Midlands! Our 125-meter long TBM has embarked on its journey to dig the second bore of HS2βs Bromford Tunnel, connecting Water Orton to Washwood Heath in Birmingham. Named 'Elizabeth' by the pupils of Paget Primary School, after Dame Elizabeth Cadbury, this TBM signifies our commitment to honouring local heroes and empowering our community. As we celebrate this achievement, we're also creating opportunities for the next generation, with tunnelling apprenticeships and job opportunities for local communities.
π We're thrilled to announce that we have kicked off our work with SSEN Transmission to develop nine Electricity Transmission projects across the north of Scotland! β‘ During this initial phase of work, weβll be providing our expertise to identify and resolve any potential construction challenges, streamline the planning process, advise on the best use of materials, plan the phasing of work to ensure optimal productivity and scope out the use of modern methods of construction. The work forms part of SSEN Transmission's 'Pathway to 2030' network redevelopment programme and on completion, will support the UK and Scottish Government's renewable energy targets. Read more here:
We are delighted to share that the first massive viaduct section is now in place over North Warwickshire's motorway network, thanks to the incredible work of Balfour Beatty VINCI contractors for HS2. Using innovative techniques, they've moved an 84m, 300-tonne steel viaduct section ahead of schedule in just 11.5 hours! This marks a pivotal moment for the Delta Junction project, paving the way for high-speed rail connections between London, Solihull, and Birmingham. ππ·ββοΈ Read more here:

π€οΈπ§ We're thrilled to announce that Balfour Beatty VINCI contractors working on behalf of HS2 have successfully removed a 4,000-tonne bridge over the M42 near the Interchange Station construction site in Solihull. This incredible feat was accomplished by a dedicated team of 20 demolition experts from Solihull-based firm Armac Group, in a meticulously coordinated 52-hour operation. ποΈ What's Next? The removal of this bridge sets the stage for the construction of a new twin box structure, essential for the high-speed HS2 line. This year, the Balfour Beatty VINCI team will commence work on this massive structure, ensuring minimal impact on traffic flow while maintaining the progress of the HS2 railway. π Thrilled to announce that we've been appointed by Hub South East to deliver two state-of-the-art primary schools in East Lothian, Scotland, valued at Β£43 million. π’ The new schools, located in Craighall and Blindwells, will accommodate over 840 students and feature modern teaching facilities and learning spaces. β»οΈ Embracing sustainability, the schools will be constructed using Passivhaus principles, employing high-performance windows and doors, as well as mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to reduce carbon emissions and improve indoor air quality. π€ As part of our commitment to the community, we will create a positive impact by providing at least 20 employment opportunities for local residents. π Construction kicks off next month, with completion slated for 2025.

π Meet Millie Bayliss, the 4,000th unemployed person to secure a job on HS2! At just 19, Millie chose a different path, opting out of university and facing eight months of unemployment. Thanks to recommendations from school colleagues and family, Millie joined Balfour Beatty VINCI (BBV) as a facilities assistant. In an impressive six months, she earned a promotion to Data Support Analyst, now contributing to the maintenance of 4D models for BBVβs engineering works. This week she met with West Midlands Mayor, Andy Street as The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) joined forces with HS2 to invest in three new dedicated Recruitment Hubs for the project in the West Midlands.
