In 2019, Howdens Manufacturing and Logistics Operations achieved zero waste to landfill and are always looking at new ways of reusing and recycling waste. Recently, our Transport Team had the challenge of replacing over 1000 HGV trailer curtains that would previously have been sent to landfill or incineration. Our old trailer curtains are now being reused by FREITAG where they are washed and then cut to size to create accessories such as laptop bags, handbags, and wallets with no intensive processing required. #ESG #Worthwhile #UKManufacturing

Howdens are proud to announce the introduction of Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil fuel (HVO fuel) in a landmark commitment to reduce CO2 as part of our sustainability pledge. Produced using hydrogenation and hydrocracking of waste vegetable oils and animal fats, HVO fuel produces 90% less CO2 than diesel per litre. We are phasing in HVO to our fleet, initially 5% of total fuel use, increasing year on year if viable. We have been investigating zero-emission transport solutions and have begun a trial of electric trucks. A DAF electric truck is being trialled and we aim to implement three electric vehicles across our sites by 2023. #Sustainability #SustainableBusiness #Environment
