We are delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for In-house Team of the Year at The Law Society Awards 2021. Congratulations to our legal team for the recognition for outstanding work in what has been a challenging year for the legal profession.
Today, we’ve published our 2021 half year results. In the announcement, our Chief Executive, Andrew Livingstone, said, “Howdens delivered a very strong performance in the first half of 2021, with sales and profit before tax at record levels for the period. “Sales were 69% higher than the first half of 2020 (which was materially impacted by COVID-19) and 20% higher than the comparator period in 2019.” Read the detailed announcement on our website. ‘Thank you’ and ‘well done’ to all Howdens colleagues. These fantastic results are only possible with your hard work and great customer service. A true team effort!
Howdens achieved a strong first half performance, ahead of our expectations with Group revenue of almost £785m (2020: £465.0m; 2019: £652.6m). Howden Joinery UK depot revenue increased to approximately £764m which, compared to the first half of 2019, was an increase of 19.8% and by 15.3% on a same depot basis*. Since the period end, this pattern of trade has continued and we remain cautiously optimistic in our outlook for the second half and our all-important peak trading period. Whilst we are aware of the economic uncertainties that we face and the tough comparators from the second half of 2020, we remain confident in our business model for the future. Accordingly, we are currently expecting pre-tax profits of around £300m for 2021 as a whole. Howdens will publish its 2021 half year results on Thursday 22 July 2021. *Note: Same depot basis for any year excludes depots opened in that year and the prior year.

Situated between the double main stage, our specially-adapted Howdens kitchen will be at the heart of the party all weekend. You’ll find the Howdens Kitchen Disco at CarFest North (Cheshire) in July and CarFest South (Hampshire) in August.
So far this year, we’ve welcomed 45 new colleagues under the government’s Kickstart Scheme. It’s a programme to support job creation for 18 – 24 year olds, giving them six months’ work experience. One of our ‘kickstarters’, Regan Dawdry-Walding, recently spoke with the Mayor of Raunds, Sylvia Hughes, his line manager, Paul Cornes, and Resourcing Specialist, Sarah Baines, about his experience with Howdens. Listen to Regan share his experience via the link below. If you know someone who could benefit from the Kickstart Scheme, contact our team at kickstart@howdens.com
