We recently celebrated the grand opening of not just the largest Lidl warehouse in Lidl GB, but in the world! Colleagues and members of the local community, including the Luton Mayor, joined the celebrations and were treated to steel drummers and a carnival parade outside of the Luton warehouse, highlighting our commitment to being an active contributor to the local area. It was wonderful to see so many people join us in celebrating a momentous occasion in our Lidl history. Here is a quick look into the festivities on the day:
Big on... Investing in our people! Our workforce is amongst the most talented and hard-working in the industry. That is why, every year since 2015, we have adopted The Real Living Wage Foundation rates of pay. We are proud to be one of Britain's highest paying supermarkets! Our hourly rates range from £12.85 to £13.15 inside the M25 and £11.40 to £12.30 outside the M25.

Happy International Women's Day! We marked this occasion by hosting an event, where a packed room of Lidl colleagues listened to our panellists talk about topics relating to this year's theme "Embrace Equity". Our panellists spoke on their respective journeys through Lidl, discussing challenges, successes and how we can all create a more equitable workplace. We look forward to hosting more events like this, creating opportunities for people to come together and share their experiences and insights. We are committed to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion, creating safe environments for open conversation within Lidl helping us to make progress towards a more equitable future. Thank you to everyone who attended and participated in our event!
Together with retailers Aldi, Asda, Co-op, Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Sainsbury's, Tesco and Waitrose, convened through IDH, Lidl GB has signed a milestone commitment today to close the living wage gap throughout collective global banana supply chains. What does this mean? As retailers, we pledge to work with our supply chain partners to ensure that plantation workers – mainly in South and Central America and West Africa – will receive pay that is sufficient to afford a decent standard of living. This includes access to water, food, housing, education, healthcare, transport, and other essential needs.
We are proud to announce that Lidl GB has once again been accredited by the Top Employers Institute as an ‘Employer of Choice’. The Top Employer Institute is an independent global authority who recognise and annually certify companies with excellent people practices. Well done to all involved with helping us gain this accreditation. We are proud to join 97 other companies within Great Britain which have also been successfully accredited this year.
As a discount supermarket we play a vital role in giving households access to good food at affordable prices, and it’s our incredible colleagues that make it happen. That’s why, from next week (October 1st), we’re increasing the pay of all 23,500 of our hourly paid colleagues for the second time this year, taking entry-level rates from £10.10 to £10.90 per hour outside of London and from £11.30 to £11.95 inside the M25. It’s a £39.5 million investment – and represents a pay rise of between 10-14.5% since this time last year. Ryan McDonnell, Lidl GB CEO comments “We have introduced these rate increases to reflect the key role and tireless efforts of our incredible colleagues working in our 935 stores and 13 warehouses. The role that we as a discounter play in giving households access to good, affordable food cannot be underestimated, now more than ever. But the ongoing commitment and dedication of our colleagues in making it all possible for our customers cannot be underestimated either – our business simply would not run without them.”
