Celebrating diversity and driving inclusivity is at the heart of everything we do. This week we’re focusing on the "T" in LGBT.
Introducing 'Be You' - our disability, mental health, and wellbeing colleague network group. The Be You network brings together a group of like-minded colleagues, passionate about empowering people to feel they can be themselves at work. The group has been focused on helping to improve the way the business manages disability, mental health and wellbeing, as well as celebrating diversity and sharing inspiring stories. The group’s aspiration is to empower every individual at Post Office to be proud of who they are, no matter their situation. Mission: •To provide an inclusive environment at the Post Office which focuses on the strengths of those with disabilities, including invisible disabilities and mental health. •To increase awareness about the positive relationship between disability inclusion and business success through building an understanding of disability, allowing every employee to thrive. •To reduce stigma and discrimination and have a positive influence on disability rights and the identity of people with disabilities.
Our CEO, Nick Read, talked to The Grocer about his mission to make Post Office commercially viable. Nick discussed his first year in charge, simplifying our proposition for future Post Offices and the increasingly important role we have when it comes to providing cash and banking services.
We are delighted to announce that our Head of Customer Experience, James Scutt, has been awarded Customer Experience Leader of the Year 2020 from industry thought-leaders, Mycustomer.com. Amongst a remarkably high calibre of entrant, James stood out as an example of a customer experience professional who had been able to elicit change in a complex organisation and sector – demonstrating outstanding “creativity, dedication and real results” in the process.

We are delighted to share that we have been awarded gold in the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme. The scheme encourages employers to support defence and inspire others to do the same. It encompasses bronze, silver and gold awards for organisations that pledge, demonstrate or advocate support for the armed forces community, and align their values with the Armed Forces Covenant. Despite the impacts of Covid-19, Post Office was up against 160 other organisations. Garry Hooton, Audit Manager and Vice Chair of the Post Office Armed Forces Network, alongside Chair Oli Sutherland, said: “This is a great achievement for the business and is testament to some excellent cross-team collaboration, clearly demonstrating what can be achieved in a relatively short period of time. Our next steps are to engage with all Post Office Veteran, Reservist and Cadet Force Adult Volunteer communities, and continue to develop links with other organisations. This will help us to provide the best support to colleagues and demonstrate the value that service experience can bring to our business.”
We are please to announce that we have been named a top LGBT - Inclusive employer by Vercida for 2018! The awards, given every year, are highly competitive and include some huge industry names geared towards fair and people-focused employment. Entrants are judged according to factors like diversity initiatives within their own business, the amount and type of content shared on the VERCIDA website, partnerships with diverse initiatives, external awards received that year and how they rank as candidate favourites. The panel behind the awards are keen to explore the power of using a diversity-led careers site to reach new audiences and promote diversity and inclusion at all levels. This is part of VERCIDA’s wider intentions to help build more successful and diverse teams by supporting and facilitating a wide skill mix to employers. Yesterday, we were the 3,000th company to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in the centenary year of the end of WWI. This was signed by Paula Vennells, our CEO, and the Secretary of State for Defence Gavin Williamson. This is a momentous occasion for Post Office Ltd. We are so proud of all the work that our ex-forces colleagues have already done for the business. Paula said: “We know that having a diverse workforce brings huge benefits to a business; and our ex-Armed Forces colleagues and those in the Reserves are a unique and vital asset to the Post Office. We want to thank them for their service and to ensure that we continue to create a business in which everyone can thrive and develop as part of the Post Office team.” Click here to find out more what this means to the Post Office: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQSgK
