Increasing customer interest in fortified foods has prompted our business to uniquely start boosting fibre content in some of its most popular snacks. In a move to help customers increase their dietary fibre we have started to boost fibre to own label foods starting with pies, pasties, sausage rolls and chilled breads. It follows Government guidelines which recommended that the average daily intake of fibre needed to nearly double in order for Brits to lead a healthier lifestyle. Angela Hughes our Food Developer who has overseen the move, lost her beloved grandfather to bowel cancer and her father also has the disease. When Angela’s doctor said there was a strong chance of her also contracting the hereditary disease she asked colleagues if she could use her expertise to try and help others avoid the same fate. Happy New Year from all of us at Tesco! And what could be a better way to start the year then to be celebrating success? Marie Caliskan, MCIPD in partnership with Media Zoo, won the silver award for an innovative, timely and effective programme. They showed a broad understanding of the wider business, it's aims and objectives, whilst future proofing the content. This award recognises best practice excellence in the field of learning and development. Entries are open to all organisations and all sectors. The judges recognised that the entire ‘Welcome to’ learning framework for stores had been transformed, providing new starters with clear learning journeys with accessible, blended resources to support their development. “Training is no longer seen as a chore by many of our colleagues, it’s more engaging and seen as more of a pull. The new modules are extremely useful for buddies because now have a clear structure to follow.” Manager, Tesco
Wishing everyone a fantastic Christmas from all of us at Tesco.
Rebecca Reidy our Learning Design Assistant in UK Capability who joined the team in 2016 talks to us about the festive spirit she is bringing to our people team this year: December is my favourite time of year, not only is it Christmas but also my birthday month, there is so much to celebrate and I wanted to bring this to life at work. As a People Team we do so many amazing things, I took out some time to go and meet with colleagues in the team to see what they have been up to and if there is anything they would like to share. This gave me the idea to develop an advent calendar that provides a little Christmas nugget of learning for every working day. The calendar showcases some recommended learning for us to use to have some great ideas to think about, a first look at some of the amazing things that are coming up in our team, developing our skills and of course some Christmassy fun. The message I really want this to send is that it is okay to take some time out to work on yourself, in fact it’s essential, so we are all fit for the future of our business.
We are set to provide more than 250,000 meals of surplus food to local groups this Christmas. Our Head of Community, Alec Brown said: “Christmas is a time of year when people think about others in their community, and our colleagues working in stores across the UK see for themselves the charities and community groups that benefit from the donations. These groups support people in need of food throughout the year, and our Tesco food surplus donations really are for life, not just for Christmas.” Read more here: http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQ30h
