Thames Valley Police Achieves Race Equality Matters Trailblazer Silver Status We are thrilled to announce that we have successfully achieved Race Equality Matters Trailblazer Silver status. This prestigious recognition is awarded to organisations driving meaningful change to tackle race inequality. Achieving Silver status (the second stage in the Trailblazer series) highlights our implementation of impactful solutions to promote race equality. An independent panel of experts with lived experience of workplace race inequality has acknowledged our efforts. Securing Trailblazer status signifies that our initiatives have made a significant impact across our entire organisation, moving us closer to our goal of becoming a more diverse, inclusive, and equal workplace.
TVP Men’s Football Team: A Legacy of Excellence and Ambition The Thames Valley Police (TVP) men’s football team has been an important part of police and emergency service sports for more than 35 years. They compete in the Police Sport UK (PSUK) and Emergency Services Football League (ESFL), demonstrating the team’s athletic ability and the strong camaraderie within the force.. The PSUK competition, a tournament solely for police teams throughout the UK, and the ESFL, encompassing all emergency and military services across the nation, serve as platforms where the TVP men’s team has achieved considerable progress. Annually, backed by the sports and social club, the team pushes to recruit new talent and improve its setup.
As someone who has done heaps of volunteering over the years; in social services, in church, my daughters’ schools, police, children’s charity, carer for my parents, sports – we all do it and probably don’t realise the hours we put in, but our society wouldn’t function without VOLUNTEERS! I now manage our team of volunteer chaplains in TVP. I am the one full-time, paid person as Lead Chaplain of our Chaplaincy Team, and I never forget how lucky I am to be paid now for a role that I love doing. I too, was previously a volunteer in Cambridgeshire and Northumbria police.
Police forces across the UK came together in South Wales on Wednesday 1 May 2024 for the national #HeForShe event. Thames Valley Police, HeForShe was represented by PC Liam Busby and Simon Hockley. Focused on ‘Working Together’, the event explored how policing can work together towards gender equality. Speakers highlighted progress and shared good practice of how #HeForShe is embedded within forces and its impact is being spread wider. The event was held at South Wales Police HQ in Bridgend, in their new, purpose-built, Police Learning Centre. Chief Constable Jeremy Vaughan is the UK Policing Lead for #HeForShe, he said “It has been great to come together as a network and look at how we can further the #HeForShe movement and how we can work together towards gender equality.”
Thames Valley Police (TVP) is excited to announce a new partnership with the University of Portsmouth, aimed at students pursuing a Professional Policing Degree (PPD). This collaboration is about preparing students for a future in policing, specifically with TVP, and by teaming up with the university, we are giving students a close-up look at what policing is really like. We’re not just talking about classroom learning – we are bringing students into the heart of TVP for talks, visits, and hands-on experience. Furthermore, our foundation trainers are working with university staff to make sure the students get the most relevant and up-to-date knowledge. In this way, we are helping to shape well-prepared candidates who are ready to join the police force.

The Thames Valley Women’s Network (TVWN) recently hosted its annual Development Day under the 2024 theme “Inspire Inclusion”. The event brought together members and guests for a day of insightful discussions and recognition aimed at celebrating the valuable contribution women make within the force. The day started with a warm welcome from Deputy Chief Constable Ben Snuggs, who set the tone for the event with his encouraging remarks on the importance of inclusivity and empowerment within policing. An engaging keynote speech was delivered by guest speaker Lee Chambers, Chief Psychologist and Director of Essentialise Workplace Wellbeing and Male Allies UK; he shared how his own life experience led to a change of career direction placing importance on workplace wellbeing and the crucial role of male allies in promoting gender equality. It was great to have our own male allies present, with members of the TV Men’s Forum on hand to support the day.
Fantastic news to share! On International Women’s Day 2024, at the World Police Summit, out of 100+ entries from 40 countries, our very own ACC Katy Barrow-Grint was runner-up for the Inspiring Female Officer Award. When asked about the award, Katy and Beth said: “Us being here at the World Police Summit, representing all women in policing internationally, it’s an absolutely fantastic way to mark International Women’s Day. It’s a testament to the great women in this profession who are here, and all across the world; most importantly, it’s about inspiring the next generation and telling them, if you are interested in policing, join today!”
