The pandemic prompted record levels of job vacancies and talk of a ‘Great Resignation’ amongst workers. But if you’re looking to move roles or switch careers, how do you know which jobs are really the best?
To help, Glassdoor has published its annual report identifying the 25 Best Jobs in the UK for 2022. These standout jobs were chosen based on each role’s overall Glassdoor Job Score*, determined using three key factors: median based salary, job openings and job satisfaction.
STEM and tech jobs dominate the 2022 Best Jobs list, with Java Developer taking the top spot followed by #2 Enterprise Architect, also the highest paying role on the list, and #3 Product Manager.
Corporate Recruiter is the position with the highest job satisfaction and Software Engineer has the most job openings. For those not wanting to return to an office, UX Designer has the highest percentage of job openings that offer remote work (95 percent).
With job searches on Glassdoor increasing 16 percent in the first quarter of the year, the Economic Research team predicts job hunting activity will peak in mid-February.
“The current tough hiring conditions mean that employees are able to be more courageous in asking for what they want from a job,” explains Glassdoor EMEA Economist Lauren Thomas. “Flexible working and positive work-life balance have gained importance amongst UK workers and we’re therefore seeing roles in industries which have historically excelled in these areas, such as STEM and tech, dominating the Best Jobs list.”

5 Job Hunting Tips To Get The Job You Want
- Assess what matters most: Ask yourself what’s important in a job. Is it the workplace culture, pay, work-life balance or whether you are simply passionate for the role. This can help you target jobs and companies in which you can pursue your passions and use your skills every day.
- Do your research: Start searching for jobs to see what’s out there either based on job title or your skills. Also look for companies where you want to work. See which are highly rated according to employees and for the things that matter most to you.
- Refine & personalise your CV. Be sure to showcase your passion - why is this company right for you and why are you right for this job. Include a unique professional summary and focus on what’s important and tease employers to learn more. Quantify your successes and show the employer how you can add value and help solve their problem
- Apply & network: Respect whatever application process the company has asked you to follow but don’t be afraid to connect directly to team members to communicate why you’re passionate about this job or company.
- Embrace virtual networking: Identify who you know and who you don’t know, but want to. Don’t be afraid to ask your network for help. Let them know what you are looking for and attend virtual events in whatever field you would like to move into.
Glassdoor Methodology
* Glassdoor’s 25 Best Jobs in the UK report identifies specific jobs with the highest overall Glassdoor job score. The Glassdoor job score is determined by weighing three factors equally: earning potential (median annual base salary), overall job satisfaction rating, and number of job openings. Results represent job titles that rate highly among all three categories. The Glassdoor job score is based on a 5-point scale (5.0=best job, 1.0=bad job). For a job title to be considered, it must receive at least 30 salary reports and at least 30 job satisfaction ratings shared by UK-based employees over the past year (12/12/2020-12/12/2021). A job title must also have at least 500 job openings as of 12/12/21 to be considered for the list. The number of job openings per job title represents active job listings on Glassdoor as of 12/12/2021. This report takes into account job title normalisation that groups similar job titles. C-suite and intern level jobs were excluded from this report.
