      Senior Front End Engineer Interview

      15 Jun 2021
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Amazon (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2020

      Interview

This is a sort of different interview description, aimed at those who work in an Amazon subsidiary (Zappos, Audible, IMDB, etc), and are considering transitioning to Amazon proper. There is the idea that, in order to apply for a position within Amazon the company (not the subsidiary), you have to apply from scratch. Now, I'm not going to say that this applies to every department or every position at Amazon. But in the case of Front-End Engineering or up, applying is as easy as going to the Amazon jobfinder portal, find the desired position, and hit "Apply." Because you're technically an Amazon employee (even though you work for Audible, Zappos, etc), hiring managers and teams tend not to be as rigorous as with outsiders. From their point of view, you've already gone through that. So why do it again? Of course, that doesn't mean you will get an offer on the spot. Many other factors are taken into consideration. For example, if your current position's goals is aligned to the goals of the new position. Whether you're knowledgeable of certain technologies that they may or may not be using, etc. But nobody is going to ask you to reverse a binary tree. So, if you're considering switching to Amazon, do it. You may discover a lot more cool resources available to you. They are actually available to you right now. But once you are in Amazon proper, they will be more discoverable. The downside, if any, is that you may need to learn even more about Amazon's internal tools. Unless you like them a lot; in which case, you'll be even happier. I personally didn't care too much about them, so there could be a bit of a learning process. But eventually you'll get comfortable with them.

      Question 1

What projects are you working on at the moment? What technologies are you using? How familiar are you with AngularJS / ReactJS / Webpack? Are you comfortable working in migrating a Vue project to React?
