      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Direct Line Group (London, England) in Apr 2018

      Interview

Applied directly on their careers page and received a call a week later inviting me for an interview. The interview itself lasted for around one hour and contained both an equal amount of competency and technical based questions. Competency based questions were of the usual format but it was clear they wanted a lot of detail with specific examples. Technical questions were similar to those stated by other candidates but only slightly different. Upon completion of the interview I was told that I would definitely receive a response via phone call. After two weeks I still did not hear back and had to check the careers page which showed I was not accepted.

      Bromley, England

      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Direct Line Group (Bromley, England) in Feb 2017

      Interview

Well first contact was via email, and from the beginning you could tell it won't go well. The HR person with no prior contact just sent an email inviting me for a face to face on a given date, before cancelling and then sending another email asking whether I was available for a face to face, whereas I appreciate the speed of all of this, it was a bit strange as I could have been just a robot applying for it! First (and last) interview was with the hiring manager and another person, focused initially on my CV and experience and then moved on to scenario based interview and asking me a few mathematical questions along the way and asking me to draw things like the normal curve, log normal etc or describing a scenario and asking what the graph of the output will look like....it was quiet thorough and detailed. Unfortunately even after being told I would hear back, nothing came back even after sending a follow up email....I checked the recruitment system recently and the status to "Declined/Rejected" was only updated recently.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you estimate for instance the total cost of cleaning the windows of all the buidings in the United Kingdom, what would be your thought process and what sort of variables will you consider What sort of estimation techniques are you familiar with, can you describe them? Are you familiar with GMM (Generalized Method of Movements) and other none OLS type techniques

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Direct Line Group (Bromley, England) in Nov 2016

      Interview

Formal but friendly interview by the manager and deputy of the team I now work in. Questions surrounding the values of DLG, competency questions which heavily drew on my experience and qualifications. I was made to feel very comfortable and could take examples in with me, the interview should have lasted around 60 minutes but we ended up chatting for about two hours they were that nice! As far as interviews go this was very relaxed and I actually felt listened to rather than a quick scan of my CV and a glazed over look from the employer!

      Question 1

How many petrol stations are in the UK.
