      EMarketing Manager Interview

      12 Mar 2010
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Genentech in Nov 2009

      Interview

Initial phone screen about 30 minutes. Pretty cursory review of skills, background and then expectation-setting for next round of interviews. Next round was 7 or 8 interviews with team -- some 30 minutes and some one hour long. Interviews varied depending on seniority of the interviewer -- more seasoned staff talked at a higher level about program management experience, philosophy. Younger staff asked pretty pro-forma interview questions about difficult projects, deadline management. Mostly, you need to flex to have a good conversation based on the comfort level of he interviewer. I'm pretty sure that they had a checklist of things they needed to cover, but they didn't seem to plan and coordinate to split up areas of discussion. Might have been different with fewer interviewers, but I feel like I met most of the team. Be prepared with specific details about projects and experience. Given the number of people with whom you interview, don't expect anyone other than the hiring manager to have a good sense of what he/she will expect from the role. The team didn't seem to be briefed on that and it seems as though this group rotates frequently enough that individuals weren't quite sure "which role" I'd be taking if I were to join.
