I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Illumina (San Diego, CA) in Feb 2017
Interview
Video interview, unlimited retries to record, mostly behavioral interviewing. Other questions included:
Tell us about a time you were (little) overwhelmed with responsibilities and tasks and how did you get through it?
Give us an example of your experience with complex quantitative data analysis and/or statistical analysis.
All of us at some point in our careers work with individuals who approach problems and life situations differently than ourselves. Can you describe a situation where you worked with a person or team and were able to overcome these differences and get the job done?

You have successfully demonstrated feasibility of a new multi-step library preparation workflow but initial larger scale testing displayed a 15% sample failure rate due to insufficient yield. Describe the approach you would take to identify root cause(s) and improve robustness.
In the technical round, I was asked to solve Java problems like star pattern printing, string manipulation, and logic-based tasks like checking even/odd numbers and parsing strings. One question was about accessing specific characters from the end of a string.
