Swinton Insurance – Why Work For Us?

About Swinton Insurance

We’ve been helping people to find insurance for over 50 years, from car to home, bike to van, commercial to taxi insurance, plus services like breakdown cover.

With a friendly face in over 350 branches, it’s no wonder we serve over 2m people, handle over 4m policies and employ over 5,000 dedicated people.

That was then

Our Swinton Insurance story began in 1957, when Ken Scowcroft sold his first car insurance policy for just five pounds. Back then, you bought motor insurance when people came direct to your door, but Ken had a better idea.

By comparing prices from lots of insurance companies, Ken could retain the personal touch and pass on the savings to his customers. In his first year, he sold over 100 policies. And with that, Swinton Insurance was born.

In 1964 he opened his first high street branch and by 1987, Swinton Insurance was a household name, with 220 branches nationwide.

This is now

Throughout the years, we’ve always been committed to working hard for our customers, taking the time to listen and going the extra mile. This honest personal approach, inherited from Ken, is still the cornerstone of our business. And we look for the same qualities in the individuals and companies we work with.

With millions of people trusting us to help protect the things that matter to them, we recognise that it’s our people and their dedication to our customers that set us apart. Which is why they’re rewarded for the difference they make to our business.

Rewards & Benefits

Here’s to you. Just to say thank you.

For every amazing piece of work we do, there’s a Swinton person behind it. Without each and every one of them, we wouldn’t have a business at all! So, to say thank you, not only will we help to develop you in your role, we’ll invest in a whole range of training and development opportunities throughout your whole career.

Plus, when you start your career with us, you’ll be rewarded with a great benefits package too, which includes:

  • 25 days’ holiday, going up to 26 after one year’s service (excluding bank holidays)
  • The chance to take part in our annual bonus scheme
  • We’ll donate 50p for every £1 you donate to charity (via payroll giving)
  • Celebrations for 5, 10, 25 and 40 years’ service
  • Additional paid leave to help local charities or communities
  • Tenancy deposit loans, which will be taken from your salary over a 12 month period

Here’s to being the voice on the other end

Fast paced. Exciting. Filled head to toe with amazing people. That’s what you can expect from a Swinton Insurance contact centre. Whichever one you become a part of. And you really will be a big part of it.

It’s an ever-changing environment where you’ll have the opportunity to challenge the norm and put your own ideas forward. Everyone’s friendly and supportive and will encourage you to just, well, be you. It really is a family.

So wave goodbye to any preconceptions you have of a contact centre. It’s much, much more than that. Just ask the people who are building a career with us as we speak.

Here’s to being at the heart of the action

Set in Manchester city centre, our support services are where everything else we do is made possible. This is the heartbeat of Swinton Insurance. And with that comes lots of opportunities to learn more, progress further and make a genuine impact.

We’re not here just to offer support. And we certainly don’t see ourselves as being ‘behind the scenes’. Whether it’s Marketing or Finance, HR or Risk, every decision made, action taken, and person involved, makes a real difference to each one of our customers.

We love what we do, and we think you will too.

Here’s to your career on the frontline.

Here’s to our network of branches that serve communities north, east, south and west. The place people come when they’ve a question to ask or a product to explore. It calls for a whole host of people across a whole host of careers. Whether you’re fresh out of uni or an experienced manager, we’ve got the job for you.

I have been working at Swinton Insurance full-time (More than 10 years)

A business going through modernisation with strong leadership - not afraid to make tough decisions to ensure stability and sustainability. A customer centric, resilient and loyal work force who are well equipped to take the business to the next level!

A business that encourages and promotes diversity at every level.

Relentless change - albeit required to bring the business into the 21st century. It would be nice to see a period of consolidation to embed to changes.

Getting things right the first time - too many changes implemented without the involvement of the people at the coal face.

Unfortunately In the past we have had people making decisions for areas of the business in which they had little understanding - I am pleased to say that there have been significant improvements in this area over the last couple of years.

    Advice to Management

Clear, transparent and honest communication required to ensure that people are well informed and well prepared for further changes within the business.

Share the vision and the strategy to ensure employee engagement and buy in!

Continue to make the right changes required to ensure the future of what is an iconic brand. No more knee jerk implementation of processes that are not fit for purpose - continue to learn from the mistakes made in the past
