I worked at GE Capital full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Financial objectives are always very clear, usually with an understandable route to success. Commitment, expertise and collaborative working styles are generally recognised and rewarded. Most people are capable, hard working, friendly and like to make the workplace fun when it can be. GE businesses are often at their best responding to a tangible crisis. That kind of mobilisation can be exciting and rewarding. Remuneration packages are good and flexible. There is reasonable understanding and acceptance of personal life considerations/work-life balance etc.

    Cons

Creative and strategic thinking is not recognised or encouraged that much. There is a GE way of thinking about opportunities and problems. Career progress is dependent on achieving hard results... 'soft contributions' are not readily recognised.

    Advice to Management

Nothing specifically. The strong culture works and could be prejudiced by too much change too quickly. Annual staff review processes are decent but could be made more robust and evidence-based.

I worked at GE Capital full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked for GE Capital for 4 years. I loved the culture, commitment to development and learning. Teams are great and the quality of coworkers is really high

    Cons

Work/life balance is non-existant. Employees are expected to dedicate all hours of the day to work, and that can get very tiring. The company does not do the best job of funding long-term IT projects for internal systems, so lots of processes that could be automated are manual. There is a fair amount of politics, so you need to play the game sometimes.

    Advice to Management

Make sure the appropriate staffing and deadlines are in place to ensure people get to have a personal life occassionally.

    Positive Outlook

    Pros

Unyielding integrity, no corners cut, quality service and quality people. Processes are spot on and reviewed regularly to ensure they work.

    Cons

Sometimes extreme reactions and decisions made, ie always expecting worst case scenarios without seeing the bigger picture

    Advice to Management

Allow UK businesses to have more say, instead of just towing the European line...
