Pros

Not much, lots of the skills can't be transfered to real world.

Cons

The data center environment is toxic, deeply unprofessional, and functions like a dysfunctional mom-and-pop shop rather than a major tech company. Leadership relies shockingly on primitive tools like spreadsheets to manage massive operations. Career mobility is non-existent; data center staff are actively bottlenecked and trapped in their roles. The workplace culture is incredibly immature and cliquey, filled with unmotivated individuals coasting for a paycheck. Worse, the interview and promotion processes are completely corrupted by politics, where managers and biased interview loops actively work to sabotage external or ambitious talent to protect their own mediocrity.

Pros

Lots of growth and opportunity. Great benefits. Able to transfer sites easily. Some of the best people I have ever worked with. Cutting edge technology. Great place to start your career.

Cons

Pay is on the lower end in the industry. Previous experience is not valued or considered at all - I am constantly told “your experience prior to Google does not matter” when applying for internal roles, despite working in the industry for a decade. Moving up the ladder can be slow even if you are a high performer - you need to show that you have been performing above your level for months before being able to promote.
