Last week our Great Dunmow site in Essex was awarded ‘Best use of Technology: Carbon Reduction’ at the New Civil Engineer Technology Festival in London, it’s the UK’s first fully operational, chemical-free process for recycling water. With 10,000 customers and a huge housing and industrial development being built in the town a major expansion is necessary and it has provided the opportunity to transform the way waste is dealt with. Nereda is a new and innovative technology which uses a non-chemical process that treats both the ammonia and phosphorous in the water. Waste is treated in batches, rather than continuously, giving more time for the bacteria to do its work so that no chemicals are needed. There are 50 Nereda sites world wide and this is the first one for Anglian Water, it also uses less energy and so has a smaller carbon footprint.
This week we picked up a gold and a silver award for our work on innovation and leakage at the World Water Congress in Tokyo. It's a really special honour to be picked from entries from 45 countries around the globe. This one has to go to the many technicians, engineers, planners, analysts and partners who have worked so hard to ensure we are using the latest technology to deliver our services and doing all we can to drive leakage down to record lows. http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQk0i
It’s sometimes the simple things that can make a difference. Such simple words in the right place can have a big impact on how you act. We have messages like this in our car parks across our sites reminding people to drive carefully. #wellness #healthandsafety
Staff wellbeing is hugely important to us, so we're really excited to have picked up Best Healthcare and Wellbeing Strategy of the Year at the Workplace Savings and Benefits Awards 2018. From events and awareness campaigns around mental health and getting active outdoors, to advice and resources on the right posture at work and dealing with money worries we have invested in a detailed strategy of support for everyone around the business. We also learnt a huge amount by reaching out to others when we invited small businesses to share their wellbeing ideas through a Dragons Den style event. We believe a happy and healthy workforce is vital for a successful business - so if you have great workplace wellbeing ideas to share, we'd love to hear them!
We’re announcing plans for the largest ever investment into our region’s water and sewerage networks. We’re spending £6.5billion to protect the environment in the East, secure water resources for generations to come, reduce leakage even further than current record levels and support even more customers who need extra help. And we’ll do all of that keeping bills as low as possible. Find out more here – http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQQI5 http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQQIv
14 year old William Darling from Wroxham in Norfolk has spent his summer holiday this year clearing litter from a long stretch of the Norfolk and Suffolk broads- from aboard his kayak- as part of his ‘Great Broads Clean Up’ challenge. The student, from Broadland High School, has the opportunity to be part of an expedition to Tanzania, where part of his time will be spent clearing the beaches there of plastic. William decided that in order to raise funds for the trip he would start by focusing his clean-up efforts closer to home by using his passion for kayaking to pick litter from the broads. We're really pleased to be a principal sponsor for Will's kayak clean-up in another step to help rid the East of England of problem plastic by 2030. You can support Will and follow his progress on twitter @KayakCleanUpWil and his fundrasing page - http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQQK9 http://glassdoor.com/slink.htm?key=vQQKB
