Inclusion and Pride aren’t something we focus on for a week or a month – they’re at the heart of what we do, every day of the year. Meet Laura Hobday, a valued member of our Digital, Data and Technology Team and the lead of Pride Family, one of our employee led communities. “Our Pride Family has a passion for fostering an environment where everyone feels seen, heard, and celebrated. I really love that we have a space for open and honest conversations among members of the LGBTQIA+ community and allies. “I enjoy helping people feel more confident talking about LGBTQIA+ issues and terminology and supporting them to feel comfortable engaging with people from different walks of life. Personally, I feel so much more at ease being able to be myself, share my identity openly, and not constantly filter how I speak.” To find out more about Inclusion and life at Anglian Water visit our company page today.
Yesterday, the National Drought Group announced it was ramping up its operational response after the driest spring in 132 years. While the recent rainfall has been positive, it hasn't been enough to stop drought declarations in some parts of the country. Drought preparedness has been at the heart of our long-term planning since the 1990's, and this sustained investment is the reason our regional water resources remain at a healthy level. But our region is changing fast, and we need to take further action to protect future water supplies. From progressing plans to build two new reservoirs to installing more than 330km of strategic pipeline to carry water from the wettest parts of the region to the driest and making sure all our customers have smart meters in their homes by the end of the decade. This investment will help to reduce demands on sensitive sources such as chalk streams and rivers and keep taps running. Our teams continue to monitor the situation closely. We’re also working with our customers to highlight small swaps that can be made to reduce water usage at home. Read more: https://lnkd.in/evH35HMb #WaterSecurity #WaterSupplies #Drought

With the rain forecasted this weekend, it's easy to forget that the region remains drier than average. And while these short showers are welcome, they don't tell the whole story. Drought preparedness has been at the heart of what we do for decades. Through investment and long-term planning, we've not needed to implement a hose pipe ban in over ten years - and aren't currently forecasting one. Thanks to the long-term rainfall we saw this winter, groundwater and reservoirs were replenished, preparing us for the drier months ahead. Water resources respond to long-term patterns, not short bursts of rain - which is why we look at weather trends in aggregate over seasons, not just week to week or month to month. So while river and groundwater levels might be below average currently, as of April this year, our reservoirs are over 90% full. But we continue to manage our supplies carefully and encourage our customers to use water wisely - rain or shine. Read more about our water resources here: https://lnkd.in/eVBW4F2p
Our region is one of the fastest growing in the UK which comes with its challenges. Alongside a rapidly changing climate and growing demand on our water resources, we need to think differently about how we do things. In his latest video, our CEO Mark Thurston outlines our investment plans for the next five years. Worth over £11bn, it will strengthen our regions resilience to drought and flooding, and drive environmental improvements, while creating thousands of jobs. #Growth #Investment #Infrastructure
Bexwell to Isleham ✅ We recently completed the last of the pipework and mechanical fittings along the 33km stretch of our strategic pipeline from Bexwell to Isleham. With part of the pipeline running through the Fenlands – which has some of the most challenging ground conditions in the UK – this is a significant milestone for the pipeline to have reached, and a credit to our colleagues and supply chain partners who worked tirelessly on the delivery of the work. Our strategic pipeline is one of the largest infrastructures projects the UK has seen for a generation and we mustn't underestimate its importance. In a region that is officially classed as water stressed, this project will enable us to move water from the wettest parts of our region in North Lincolnshire, right down to the driest in Essex. Over 200km of pipe is already in the ground across SPA but this is just the start. Over the next five years, we’re planning to invest £365m in the pipeline – installing a further 200km of large, strategic water mains. This is about more than just water—it’s about keeping taps running so communities, businesses, and environment can flourish together. Last year our industry-leading smart meter programme hit some significant milestones as we finished installing our initial rollout of 1.1million smart meters across the region. As we head into our next business planning period, the work doesn’t stop there. We’re on track to reach our ambitious goal of delivering smart meters across the entire region by 2030 – an investment worth £153million. Together with our partners Arqiva, and alliance partners Kier Group and Clancy, we’re installing over 1,000 smart meters a day. Leaks on the pipework within customers’ homes accounts for up to a third of all leakage. As well as giving ourselves and our customers greater visibility of their water usage, the smart meters are great at helping us find these pesky, hard-to-see leaks. So far, using smart meter data, we’ve been able to find and fix an average of 14 litres of water per property per day in leaks since the rollout started. As the country’s driest region –with a rapidly growing population – detecting and fixing these leaks contributes significant to supporting growth and protecting our precious water supply💧. With around 1.1million smart meters left to install, it’s going to be a busy five years for our frontline teams. Find out more about our industry leading programme: https://lnkd.in/e_JMk2Gv.

The East of England is expanding quickly and is set to see more than 720,000 new residents by 2043. With this level of growth comes increasing pressures on water and wastewater infrastructure. As the provider of an essential service to our customers, we know we play an important role in facilitating this growth and protecting the environment. Which is why we've outlined more than £1billion of investment across our region in 2025/26 – our largest single- year programme ever. We’re really proud to have set out a robust, ambitious plan that will support our region’s growth, all while keeping customers’ taps running and toilets flushing. We do all we can to keep bills affordable, but we want people to know there is support available for anyone struggling to pay, which is why we’re also setting out a customer support package worth more than £80 million. Our teams are always on hand to offer support in a way that’s tailored to individual circumstances. But we can also help identify wider external support, aside from a water that some people don release they are entitled to. That’s why, whatever the circumstances, our message to customers is always: if you’re worried about paying your bill, please get in touch. The sooner we talk, the sooner we can help.
