Our water supply isn’t infinite and as temperatures rise and the population continues to grow, there is a pressing need to think differently about how we can protect our most precious resource. Our CEO Mark Thurston recently took a trip to Bury St Edmunds to visit one of our largest infrastructure projects - the strategic pipeline project. We've recently passed the halfway mark for pipelaying - a critical milestone in this large-scale project. Once complete, the pipeline will help supply millions of litres of water for generations to come. In this video, Mark shares the latest updates on the project, as well as what to expect in the years to come and the importance of water reaching homes, schools and business in one of the fastest growing regions in our country.

Four events, 12 counties, 254 attendees and 863 post it notes later, and we’ve wrapped up our engagement events with Local Planning Associations (LPA). Delivering the government’s agenda for sustainable housing and economic growth will rely almost exclusively on transformative, large scale water infrastructure. Which is why, it’s essential we engage with key stakeholders across our region and ensure their voices are reflected in our business plan for the next five-years. The feedback during these events was overwhelmingly positive. We were able to share our plans to build much-needed infrastructure that will keep taps running and toilets flushing for years to come. However, to fully enable the delivery of these projects, water infrastructure must be prioritised at the planning stage. Which is why, we are asking for key decision makers to drive a greater connection between growth and the capacity of the water infrastructure and network. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eSv68_PD
It’s been a year since hashtag#StormBabet hit the UK and although the current forecast isn’t quite as severe, the Met Office have urged people to prepare for flooding after the wettest 18 months on record. We know that with climate change, extreme weather events are going to become more frequent, and our drainage and sewer system will need to work harder to be able to keep up. With 28% of land below sea level, flooding is a very real threat in our region. Over the next five years, we’re committed to increasing our wastewater network by 112 Olympic-sized swimming pools. As well as reducing pollutions and spills, this will increase our network’s capacity for holding storm water during wet weather. But we can’t truly tackle flooding alone, as many parts of the drainage system such as road drains, gullies, ditches, rivers and canals, all have different owners. By teaming up with local councils, internal drainage boards, Lead Local Flood Authorities, the Environment Agency and Local and National Highways we can continue to tackle the problems together. Find out how we’re investing in the region here - https://lnkd.in/eGEwYz4y. You can also sign up for flood warnings here: https://lnkd.in/eETr2gm. #FloodActionWeek #ClimateChange #FloodPreparedness

This week, we were joined by the Greater Lincolnshire Local Authorities and key stakeholders across our region, at one of a series of events we're hosting to engage local planning authorities in our 2025 to 2030 business plans. Over the next five-year period, we're investing approximately £1billion into Greater Lincolnshire. In the opening keynote speech, our CEO Mark Thurston spoke about the importance of driving growth within the region and pledged to continue the collaborative working relationship we have with the local planning authorities. These events have been incredibly beneficial, and much was learnt on both sides. Collaboration and partnership will be vital over the next five years, as we prepare to deliver our largest ever capital infrastructure programme.
