We’ve heard loud and clear from our customers, communities, passionate river groups and regulators that we need to act faster to address storm overflows. In light of this, we can share our plans for how we plan to tackle storm spills across the region, which starts with fast tracking £50 million of shareholder investment this year to create a spills taskforce. Over the next five years, we will invest £1 billion to tackle spills by delivering schemes, such as creating more storm water storage at our water recycling centres so they can deal with more rainfall during extreme weather, as well as installing additional monitoring to give better visibility of when the sewer network is under pressure. You can find out more about our full plan to reduce storm spills here - https://lnkd.in/d7DCa9bN

The average person produces 91kg of poo every year…which can generate enough electricity to power a 60watt light bulb for 9 hours every day! 🚽💡 Claudia started her career as an apprentice in the labs but was inspired to work as a bio resource technician, working to turn poo into power through biogas. Which can be used to power our treatment sites as a greener alternative to fossil fuels. The team work round-the-clock to create energy out of sewage which most people consider being a waste product rather than a waste resource. We’re always searching for new and better ways to create a more sustainable future for everyone. And empowering our people to discover their true passions is at the heart of what we do. At Anglian Water we’re working to improve the gender and ethnicity balance at all levels of our organisation. That’s why we’re proud to have been named as one of the ‘Top 10 Best Performing Private Companies’ in the FTSE Women Leaders Review, in recognition of female representation on our Board and Leadership Teams. We’ve made steady progress improving the gender balance of our senior leadership since updating our inclusion strategy in 2021. In 2023 women accounted for four of our non-executive directors (36%), and we had three women on our management board (30%). In 2024 we've made further improvements, with recent appointees including Dr Ros Rivaz as Chair of our board, alongside Emily Walch as Director of Corporate Affairs and Sian Thomas as Director of Strategic Asset Management. This is the first time private companies have been included in the FTSE Women Leaders Review, so we’re delighted to have been recognised for our progress. The FTSE Women Leaders Review is an independent business-led initiative, backed by the Government and sponsored by Lloyds Banking Group and KPMG, which is focused on increasing women’s representation on the Boards and Leadership Teams of the FTSE 350 and the UK’s 50 biggest private companies. This year it has reported steady progress in the number of women at the top of British business as it closed out year three of its five-year term.
In the @one Alliance our work can come from a variety of places, at our site near Potton, Bedfordshire, we're working with National Highways to divert 9 pipelines in order to enable the construction of the new A428 roadworks from Black Cat Roundabout to Caxton Gibbet. These 9 new Anglian Water Assets including 1 foul and 8 clean pipes need to be diverted ready for this section of the works to begin later in 2024. There are also a number of locations where private services are impacted by either the diversions or the scheme, which will require reconnection to the new diverted assets. As we have completed the necessary earthwork construction, we are now well underway on our installation of 6 pipeline twinned sleeved sections. As much as its trying to, not even the weather can stop our team's progress!
Meet Sam 👋 who’s in his final year of his Design Engineer apprenticeship and has already been offered a full-time role working on one of our largest infrastructure projects…Strategic Pipeline Alliance! 💧 SPA will help future proof water supplies for future generations by installing hundreds of kilometres of pipeline to move water more freely around our region. This means we’ll be able to divert water from the wettest areas in the north of our region to the driest areas in the south and east, where water isn’t as easily sourced. Sam and the team are pushing boundaries by using smart engineering and cutting-edge technology to design our pipes to be energy efficient to minimise the carbon impact and protect our environment. Want to make a difference? We’re looking people to join our talent community.
