There’s something for everyone with our apprenticeship programme – with opportunities to work alongside our teams to gain skills for life and work with cutting-edge technology 💡 We want everyone to feel confident and prepared, from applying for a role to starting on their first day. So why not brush up your interview skills with our top tips: ✅ Practice makes perfect – there’s no such thing as too much practice to feel comfortable for the real thing. ✅ Research and preparation – try and take the time to research the role and company beforehand, as it can be hard to think of questions to ask on the spot. ✅ Try to relax - we're all human, and interviews can be daunting for anyone. Your interviewer will understand this, take some deep breaths and remember we want to get to know you, and give you the chance to get to know us! ✅ Take your time - it's okay to take a couple of seconds to think about your answer before you start, it'll help you answer the questions fully and clearly. We’re excited that our Strategic Pipeline Alliance’s (SPA) archaeology team will be featuring on BBC’s Digging for Britain early this year! During the show, Professor Alice Roberts travels to Lincoln near a 52km stretch of our new water network pipeline and met SPA’s archaeology team looking for more evidence of the Roman occupation along the road. Evidence of a once bustling highway is uncovered, and a nearby Roman settlement is found. The strategic pipeline being built is one of the UK’s biggest infrastructure projects and will move millions of litres of water a day from wetter to drier areas of the region. Don’t miss these exciting discoveries on BBC Two’s Digging for Britain on Tuesday 9 January 2024!
Last week we celebrated our Safe Smart Systems project being awarded the Innovation Award at last night’s Utility Week Awards! As we face an increasingly challenging environment with more pressure than ever on our network, Safe Smart Systems sets out to transform the way we operate by fully embracing the digital and technological opportunities available to us. Led by Anglian Water and lead delivery partner Jacobs, we’re collaborating with partners from across the water and technology industry, suppliers and academia to ensure our work can be scaled beyond the Anglian region.
According to the Thriving Index we published earlier this week, the region we serve is well-placed on sustainable growth. Positive economic, demographic, and housing indicators all point towards future growth. The Index projects that GDP in the region will grow 33% between 2023-43, slightly below the 35% for England as a whole. The long-term challenge is sustaining the pace of housing development against the fast-growing population and ensuring infrastructure is in place to facilitate demand. The region’s economic and demographic growth are inextricably linked to the climate change challenge. Every new home and business needs clean water at the turn of a tap and effective wastewater disposal, and we must put in place the infrastructure to protect the environment from further abstraction while still facilitating growth. We will spend nearly £1 billion between 2025-30 to reduce storm overflow spills. By 2030, we aim to further reduce the total number of pollutions by 40%, and work with others to reduce the risk of unflushable materials entering the sewer network. Through our Get River Positive programme, we are working in partnership with farmers and other sectors to reduce diffuse pollution. We will create an area of treatment wetlands the size of 100 football pitches, which not only alleviate challenges such as flooding and nutrient loading in rivers, but also provide habitats for nature and an overall biodiversity net gain. Normanton Church at Rutland Water was shining red and green over the weekend for Remembrance Sunday. We will remember them ❤️
Would you like to be part of a team who are responsible for the safe and sustainable operation and maintenance of our water recycling assets? Here at Anglian Water, we are one of the leading providers of water and water recycling services in the UK and our organisation is an industry benchmark for quality and customer service. But what makes us unique is our commitment to providing the development people need to make a real difference. The key services that we are responsible for are delivered by our in-house, highly skilled workforce. We collect and treat the water that customers have used, returning it to the environment via rivers and coastal outlets. Our network includes over 7,000 pumping stations, 76,000 kilometres of sewers which feed over 1,000 water recycling centres. What would you be doing? As an Electrical or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer, you will be helping with the smooth running of the day-to-day operations of our Water Recycling sites. You will carry out general repairs and investigate, diagnose, and rectify faults with support from your wider team. Within this role you will ideally have experience within a maintenance role, ideally within the industrial or commercial environment.   Some working knowledge of industrial mechanical control systems, telemetry systems, pumps, gearboxes, general mechanical plant and equipment would be beneficial but is not essential.   A full UK driving license is required for this role. www.anglianwatercareers.co.uk
Our colleagues have seen some scary stuff in our sewers, but the last thing they thought they’d find is a doll’s head! Thankfully it’s unusual for our team to find a set of eyes staring back at them in the sewers 👀 But it’s not uncommon for them to find unflushables and fats, oils and grease. These items can't pass through the sewer system and can end up causing a blockage.
